The fiber-to-waveguide coupler is based on a diluted waveguide, which is composed of ten periods of undoped 120nm InP/80nm InGaAsP (1.05μm bandgap) multiple layers. Using the semi-vectorial three dimensional beam propagation method (BPM) with the central difference scheme, the coupling efficiency of fiber-to-waveguide under different conditions is simulated and studied, and the optimized conditions for fiber-to-waveguide coupling are obtained. For TE-like and TM-like modes, the calculated maximum coupling efficiency is higher than 94% and 92% ,respectively. The calculated polarization dependence is less than 0. ldB,showing good polarization independence.展开更多

A numerical wave flume was developed based on the non-periodic high-order spectral (HOS) method. The flume was applied to analyze the effect of wave steepness and wavelength on the propagation of nonlinear waves. The results show that for waves of low steepness, the wave profile and the wave energy spectrum are stable, and that the propagation can be predicted by the linear wave theory. For waves of moderate steepness and steep waves, the effects associated with the interactions between waves in a wave group become significant and a train of initially sinusoidal waves may drastically change its form within a short distance from its original position.展开更多

The studies are first derived in the time domain: a Finite-Difference Time-Domain method is applied, taking spectra via FFTs (Fast Fourier Transform) as post-processors. Electric and magnetic field distributions, pulse propagations along stripline structures or vias are highlighted. The scattering parameters for various cases are extracted and compared. Some original issue of this work is an insight on crosstalk or shielding phenomena between lines.展开更多

The surface elastic theory is used to consider the surface stress effects and to derive the nontraditional boundary condition on the surface of nanoholes. The plane wave expansion method is used to obtain the scattering waves from the single nanohole. The multiple scattering effects are taken into consideration by summing the scat- tered waves from all scatterers and performing the configuration averaging of random distributed scatterers. The effective propagation constants of coherent waves along with the associated dynamic effective elastic modulus are numerically evaluat- ed. The influences of surface stress are discussed based on the numerical results.展开更多

We show the existence of an absolute band gap of the perfect phononic crystal and linear defect modes inside the gap caused by localization of flexural waves at or near the defects. The displacement distributions show that flexural waves can transmit well along the straight linear defect created by removing one row of cylinders from the perfect phononic crystals for almost all the frequencies falling in the band gap, which indicates that this structure can act as a high efficiency waveguide. However, for bending or branching linear defects, there exist both guided and localized modes, and therefore the phononic crystals could be served as waveguides or filters.展开更多
