Coaxially dielectric samples consisting of different packing ratios of glass-covered Fe73.5Si13.5B9Nb3Cu1 amorphous wires embedded in a paraffin wax matrix were fabricated, and the influence of short-wire packing ratio (3%-9% in mass fraction) and thickness (1-7 mm) on the microwave absorption properties was systematically investigated in microwave frequency range of 2-18 GHz. X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and scalar network analyzer (SNA) were used for characterizing microstructure and evaluating microwave absorption properties. Experimental results show the significant frequency (6-18 GHz) dependence of the complex relative permeability and permittivity. The reflection loss (RL) with different thickness and short-wire packing ratio reveals that the composite sample containing 7% exhibits better microwave absorption behavior with its minimum value of RL reaching-34 dB in thickness of 3 mm at 14 GHz. Therefore, it is significantly useful to develop microwire-dielectric materials with much wider absorption band for microwave absorption applications. 展开更多

The deformation behavior and crashworthiness of functionally-graded foam-filled tubes(FGFTs)under drop-weight impact loading were investigated.Closed cell aluminum,A356 alloy and zinc foams fabricated by the liquid state processing were used as axial grading fillers for the manufacture of single-layer and multilayer structures with different configurations.The results indicate that the deformation of multilayer foam filled tubes initiates from the low-strength components,and then propagates in the high-strength components through the gradual increment of stress.The use of more A356 alloy and aluminum foam layers provides greater specific energy absorption(SEA)for the graded structures,whereas the high-strength zinc foam has no positive effect on the crash performance.The progressive collapse of graded structures consisting of the aluminum and A356 alloy foams occurs in a symmetric mode under quasi-static and drop-weight impact conditions.However,the zinc foam causes a combination of symmetric and extension modes as well as greater localized deformation under dynamic loading and greater local rupture in quasi-static loading condition.The Al−A356 foam-filled tubes with a combination of the highest SEA(10 J/g)and the lowest initial peak stress(σmax of 10.2 MPa)are considered as the best lightweight crashworthy structures. 展开更多

Comparison of Phosphorus Sorption by Light-Weight Aggregates Produced in the United States 被引量:1

In this study, phosphorus(P) sorption of thirteen light-weight aggregates(LWAs) from USA was compared during batch equilibrium experiments in order to identify those materials which had the highest P sorption capacity for further study. Seven different levels of sorption activity were observed, which were broadly grouped into three categories—high performing, middle performing, and low performing aggregates. Chemical analysis of Ca, Al, Fe, and Mg was used to describe the differences between LWAs. There was a significant correlation between cation(especially Al, Ca, Fe, and Mg) content and P sorbed. Langmuir isotherms were used to describe P sorption maximum and binding affinity for four of the top five performing LWAs, Universal, Stalite "D", Stalite "Mix", and TXI.The fifth aggregate, Lehigh, exhibited more complex sorption, and was better described by the Freundlich isotherm. Universal had a mean P sorption at the highest concentration of 824 mg kg-1, well above its calculated sorption maximum(702 mg kg-1), and also had the highest binding affinity(1.1 L mg-1). This experiment suggests that the top performing LWA(Universal) may perform poorly in column and field studies due to observed precipitates, which could degrade constructed wetland performance. Other LWAs may exhibit superior field performance due to their high calculated sorption maxima. In general, these results highlight the importance of batch experiments as a first step in identifying materials suitable for column and field experiments. 展开更多
