For this purpose, terracotta brick seems to meet these needs. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of the incorporation of coal fly ash from a thermal power plant on the physical and mechanical properties of fired bricks from grey clay in the Thicky area of Senegal. The coal fly ash was incorporated into the raw clay material in proportions of 0, 5, 10, and 15 % by weight. These two raw materials were first characterized by X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF). The XRF analyses showed that the most abundant oxides in clay were SiO2 (55.034%) and Fe2O3 (10.155%). In coal fly ash, SiO2 (38.574%) is predominant. The ash also contained Al2O3 (7.717%) and alicano-earthy melting oxides such as CaO (9.271%) and MgO (7.298%) etc. These melting oxides were necessary to facilitate the formation of the liquid phase when baking platelets. The latter, when burned at a temperature of 880°C, were characterized by determining the number of physico-mechanical parameters, such as linear shrinkage during cooking, water absorption, fire loss and compressive strength. A Hierarchical Ascending Classification of these different parameters was performed and three classes were obtained. Class 1 with better compressive strength (6.358 MPa), was in sample A (5%). Class 2 consisted of sample D (reference) and had a higher plasticity index (28.51%) and water absorption rate (11.19%). Finally, class 3, which included samples B (10%) and C (15%), had very high shrinkage and fire losses compared to other platelets. These results highlighted the possibility of using up to 5% of the coal fly ash in the production of new fired bricks with good performance.展开更多

The effects of raw materials composition and holding time on synthesis process were investigated, and the formation process of the composites was also discussed. The phase composition and microstructure of the composites were characterized by means of XRD and SEM. It was found that increasing carbon content in a sample and holding time could promote the formation of β-Sialon, ZrN and ZrON. The proper processing parameters to synthesize β-Sialon/ZrN/ZrON composites were mass ratio of zircon to fly ash to active carbon of 49:100:100, synthesis temperature of 1550 °C and holding time of 15 h. The average grain size ofβ-Sialon and ZrN(ZrON) synthesized at 1550 °C for 15 h reached about 2 and 1μm, respectively. The fabrication process ofβ-Sialon/ZrN/ZrON composites included the formation ofβ-Sialon and ZrO2 as well as the conversion of ZrO2 to ZrN and ZrON.展开更多

Hydrogen peroxide was employed as a foaming agent to prepare CFA-based foam geopolymer. The particle distribution, mineral composition, and chemical composition of CFA were examined firstly. Geopolymerization products were characterized by mechanical testing, scanning elec- tron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray fluorescence (XRF). The CFA-based foam geopolymer was successfully fabri- cated with different contents of hydrogen peroxide and exhibited uncompleted alkali reaction and reasonable strength with relative low atomic ratios of Si/Al and Si/Na. Type-C CFA in this research could be recycled as an akernative source material for geopolymer production.展开更多

The thermodynamic results were verified experi-mentally. Thermodynamic calculations show that mullite present in the fly ash can react with NH4HSO4 in the 298-723 K range. Process op-timization reveals that the extraction rate can reach up to 90.95% when the fly ash reacts with NH4HSO4 at a 1:8 mole ratio of Al2O3/NH4HSO4 at 673 K for 60 min. Kinetic analysis indicates that the NH4HSO4 roasting process follows the shrinking unreacted core model, and inner diffusion through the product layer is the rate-controlling step. The activation energy is calculated to be 16.627 kJ/mol;and the kinetic equation can be expressed as 1-(2/3)α-(1-α)2/3=0.0374t exp[-16627/(RT)], whereαis the extraction rate and t is the roasting temperature.展开更多

This study is of significance for the improvement of rotary triboelectrostatic separation performance and its decarbonization separation efficiency.展开更多

Mineralogical compositions and surface morphology of fly ashes before and after modification were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. Effect of surface-modified fly ashes on compressive strength and autogenous shrinkage of blended cement pastes was investigated. Microstructures of cement pastes were examined by backscattered electron (BSE) imaging and mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP). The experimental results showed that β-C2S was formed on the surfaces of fly ashes after modification. Hydration ofβ-C2S on the surface-modified fly ashes densified interface zone and enhanced bond strength between particles of fly ashes and hydrated clinkers. In addition, surface modification of fly ashes tended to decrease total porosity and 10-50 nm pores of cement pastes. Surface modification of fly ashes increased compressive strength and reduced autogenous shrinkage of cement pastes.展开更多

In this pa-per, alkali-activated foam geopolymers were fabricated from circulating fluidized bed fly ash (CFA), and the effect of SiO2/Na2O mole ratio (0.91-1.68) on their properties was studied. Geopolymerization products were characterized by mechanical testing, scanning electron mi-croscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results show that SiO2/Na2O mole ratio plays an important role in the mechanical and morphological characteristics of geopolymers. Foam samples prepared in 28 d with a SiO2/Na2O mole ratio of 1.42 exhibit the greatest compressive strength of 2.52 MPa. Morphological analysis reveals that these foam geo-polymers appear the relatively optimized pore structure and distribution, which are beneficial to the structure stability. Moreover, a combina-tion of the Si/Al atomic ratio ranging between 1.47 and 1.94 with the Na/Al atomic ratio of about 1 produces the samples with high strength.展开更多

Through the thermal plasma treatment, the vitrified product (slag) with amorphous dark glassy structure was obtained, and the leachability of hazardous metals in slag was significantly reduced. Meanwhile, it was found that the cooling rate affects significantly the immobility of heavy metals in slag. The mass distribution of heavy metals (Zn, Cd, Cr, Pb, As, Hg) was investigated in residual products (slag, secondary residues and flue gas), in order to analyze the behavior of heavy metals in thermal plasma atmosphere. Heavy metal species with low boiling points accounting for the major fraction of their input-mass were adsorbed in secondary residues by pollution abatement devices, while those with high boiling points tended to be encapsulated in slag.展开更多

In this technology, coal fly ash is first sintered with ammonium sulfate, forming ammonium aluminum sulfate in the resultant product, where alumina can be easily leached without using any strong acid or alkali. The products obtained under different sintering conditions were characterized by X-ray diffractometry. Alumina extraction efficiency of these products was also investigated. The results show that the sintering temperature and time substantially influence the phase composition and alumina extraction efficiency of sintered products, while the heating rate has little influence. The optimal sintering condition is 400 °C for 3 h in air with a heating rate of 6 °C·min-1.Under the optimal sintering condition, the alumina extraction efficiency from as-sintered coal fly ash can reach 85% or more.展开更多

The experimental results show that the strength of mortar stored in MgSO4 solution increases a little before 28 d, but decreases fast subsequently. The more the contents of limestone powder and fly ash, the less the strength losses. Mortar swells in the MgSO4 solution with the soaking time. And the more the contents of limestone powder and fly ash, the less the expansion rate is. The expansion or strength loss of mortars results from the expansion of gypsum, as well as the loss of Ca(OH)2 and other hydration products of cement. The magnesium sulfate resistance of the mortars containing limestone powder and fly ash is high.展开更多

The surface properties of the modified fly ash, including active index wetting angle, were measured in this paper. The modified fly ash was filled into rubber to improve the rubber properties. The results of rubber tests indicate that the type of the surface modifiers has a great influence on the rubber reinforcing properties. The fly ash modified by titanate coupling agents exhibits the best performance in respect to rubber reinforcing properties. The test results show that the fly ash can take place of some decomposition material so that the dosage of decomposition in rubber can be reduced, resulting in the low producing cost of rubber and the low pollution of fly ash.展开更多

Therefore, this study aims to utilize ultrasonic-cured modified municipal solid waste incineration(MSWI) fly ash for Cu(Ⅱ) adsorption to achieve the purpose of “treating waste by waste.” The effects of p H, adsorption time, initial concentration, and temperature on the modified MSWI fly ash’s adsorption efficiency were systematically studied in this article. The adsorption performance of the modified MSWI fly ash can be enhanced by the ultrasonic modification. At pH = 2, 3 and 4, the adsorption capacity of the modified MSWI fly ash for Cu(Ⅱ) increased by 2.7, 1.9 and 1.2 times, respectively. Furthermore, it was suggested that the adsorption process of the modified MSWI fly ash can be better simulated by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, with a maximum adsorption capacity calculated by the Langmuir model of 24.196 mg.g-1. Additionally, the adsorption process is spontaneous, endothermic, and chemisorption-dominated from the thermodynamic studies(ΔH and ΔS > 0, ΔG < 0).Finally, the enhanced adsorption performance of the modified MSWI fly ash for Cu(Ⅱ) may be attributed to electrostatic interaction and chelation effects.展开更多

The fabrication process ofβ-Sialon/ZrN/ZrON composites included the formation ofβ-Sialon and ZrO2 as well as the conversion of ZrO2 to ZrN and ZrON.

文摘The main objective of this paper focuses on the changes that occur in the strength and microstructural properties of sodium silicate activated fly ash based geopolymer due to varying the sulfate salt and water content.A series of tests including X-ray diffraction,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, physical adsorption and unconfined compressive strength were used to investigate this effect. The results indicate that the higher water content has an adverse effect on the alkali activation and microstructural properties of geopolymer,so the optimum mass ratio of sodium sulfate in alkali-activated geopolymer under different water-to-binder ratios shows a“peak shifting”phenomenon,i.e.,the higher the water-to-binder ratio, the higher the optimum mass ratio.Lower presence of sodium sulfate has no significant effect on the alkali-activated geopolymer systems;higher addition of sodium sulfate, however, could cause the symmetrical stretching vibration of Si—O and the symmetrical stretching vibration of Si—O—Si and Al—O—Si,and promote the formation of N-A-S-H gels.Furthermore, the cement effect of the gel and sodium sulfate aggregate could improve the integrity of pore structure obviously. The maximum strength of geopolymer curing at ambient temperature was 52 MPa.This study obtains the rule that the strength properties of alkali-activated geopolymers vary with the water-to-binder ratio and sodium sulfate content. The feasibility of geopolymer co-activated by sodium sulfate and sodium silicate was investigated, and reference for engineering application of alkali-activated geopolymer in salt-bearing areas was provided.

文摘In recent years, circulating fluidized bed combustion fly ash (CFA) is used as a raw material for geopolymer synthesis. Type-C CFA in this research could be recycled as an akernative source material for geopolymer production.

文摘A novel method was developed for extracting alumina (Al2O3) from fly ash using an ammonium hydrogen sulfate (NH4HSO4) roasting process, and the thermodynamics and kinetics of this method were investigated. The activation energy is calculated to be 16.627 kJ/mol;and the kinetic equation can be expressed as 1-(2/3)α-(1-α)2/3=0.0374t exp[-16627/(RT)], whereαis the extraction rate and t is the roasting temperature.

文摘On the basis of understanding the principle of rotary triboelectrostatic separation, dynamic analysis of charged fly ash particles aimed at determining the key factors and separation experiments to improve decarbonization efficiency had been carried out Variables of electrode plate voltage and corrected wind speed are the key factors which affect the decarbonization efficiency on the separation of fly ash, The results of separation experiments show that:(1) With the plate voltage increasing, the efficiency of decarbonization continuously rises and in its selected range, the optimal voltage level is 45 KV;(2) The corrected wind speed can impact the efficiency of decarbonization significantly: with the speed increasing, the efficiency of decarbonization shows a trend of first decline, then increase and decrease again, and in its selected range, the optimal speed is 2.0 m/s. This study is of significance for the improvement of rotary triboelectrostatic separation performance and its decarbonization separation efficiency.

文摘Surfaces of grade III fly ashes were modified through mixing with carbide slag and calcining at 850 ℃ for 1 h. Surface modification of fly ashes increased compressive strength and reduced autogenous shrinkage of cement pastes.

文摘Geopolymers are three-dimensional aluminosilicates formed in a short time at low temperature by geopolymerization. Moreover, a combina-tion of the Si/Al atomic ratio ranging between 1.47 and 1.94 with the Na/Al atomic ratio of about 1 produces the samples with high strength.

文摘The shrinkage of fly ash geopolymers was studied in the present study.Fly ash was used as the source material for making the geopolymers. The effects of the concentration of NaOH,sodium silicate-to-NaOH ratio,liquid-to-ash ratio, curing temperature, and curing time on shrinkage were investigated. The geopolymers were cured at 25,40,and 60℃,respectively.The results indicate that the shrinkage of geopolymers is strongly dependent on curing temperature and liquid-to-ash ratio. The increase in shrinkage is associated with the low strength development of geopolymers. It is also found that NaOH concentration and sodium silicate-to-NaOH ratio also affect the shrinkage of geopolymers but to a lesser extent.

文摘Municipal solid waste incinerator (MSWI) fly ash with high basicity (about 1.68) was vitrified in a thermal plasma melting furnace system. Heavy metal species with low boiling points accounting for the major fraction of their input-mass were adsorbed in secondary residues by pollution abatement devices, while those with high boiling points tended to be encapsulated in slag.

文摘A new developed technology for extracting alumina from coal fly ash was studied in this paper. The optimal sintering condition is 400 °C for 3 h in air with a heating rate of 6 °C·min-1.Under the optimal sintering condition, the alumina extraction efficiency from as-sintered coal fly ash can reach 85% or more.

文摘The effect of limestone powder and fly ash on magnesium sulfate resistance of mortar was studied by testing on the strength, expansion and hydration products of the specimens stored in MgSO4 solution at certain periods. The magnesium sulfate resistance of the mortars containing limestone powder and fly ash is high.

文摘The fly ash from Jixi power plant was treated with various surface modifiers. The test results show that the fly ash can take place of some decomposition material so that the dosage of decomposition in rubber can be reduced, resulting in the low producing cost of rubber and the low pollution of fly ash.

文摘A novel process was proposed for synergistic extraction and separation of valuable elements from high-alumina fly ash.A thermodynamic analysis revealed that to achieve effective carbochlorination,it is crucial to conduct carbochlorination of the fly ash within the temperature range from 700 to 1000℃.The experimental results demonstrated that under the optimal conditions, the carbochlorination efficiency for Al,Si,Ca,Ti,and Mg exceeded 81.18%,67.62%,58.87%,82.15%,and 59.53%,respectively.The XRD patterns indicated that Al and Si in the mullite phase(Al_(6)Si_(2)O_(13))were chlorinated during the carbochlorination process, resulting in the formation of mullite mesophases(Al_(4.75)Si_(1.25)O_(9.63) and Al_(1.83)Si_(1.08)O_(4.85)).After the carbochlorination process,Al was accumulated as AlCl_(3) in the condenser, while SiCl_(4) and TiCl_(4) were enriched in the exhaust gas,and CaCl_(2),MgCl_(2),and unreacted oxides remained in the residue for further recycling.

文摘High concentrations of copper ions(Cu(Ⅱ)) in water will pose health risks to humans and the ecological environment. Additionally, the adsorption process is spontaneous, endothermic, and chemisorption-dominated from the thermodynamic studies(ΔH and ΔS > 0, ΔG < 0).Finally, the enhanced adsorption performance of the modified MSWI fly ash for Cu(Ⅱ) may be attributed to electrostatic interaction and chelation effects.

文摘By using high-alumina fly ash as raw material,a process was proposed for activating the fly ash with Na_(2)CO_(3)calcination and extracting aluminum from activated clinker with sulfuric acid leaching. The feasibility of roasting process of activated fly ash by Na_(2)CO_(3)was discussed based on thermodynamic analysis. The experimental results showed that Na_(2)CO_(3)gradually reactes with mullite over 700 K to produce NaAlSiO_(4).The optimal process conditions for the activation stage are:a material ratio of 1:1 between sodium carbonate and fly ash,a calcination temperature of 900℃,and a calcination time of 2.5 hours.Under these conditions, the leaching rate of aluminum is 90.3%.By comparing the SEM and XRD analysis of raw and clinker materials,it could be concluded that the mullite phase of fly ash is almost completely destroyed and transformed into sodium aluminosilicate with good acid solubility.
