Recent studies for rigorously analyzing the weighted spectral distribution(W SD) have focused on unweighted networks with low clustering coefficients. In this paper, we rigorously analyze the W SD in a deterministic weighted scale-free small-world network model and find that the W SD grows sublinearly with increasing network order(i.e., the number of nodes) and provides a sensitive discrimination for each input of this model. This study demonstrates that the scaling feature of the W SD exists in the weighted network model which has high and order-independent clustering coefficients and reasonable power-law exponents.展开更多

Two questions are addressed. Firstly, by using international organizations as the subjects and quantitative analysis of the spatial distribution of their offices, the overall position of Chinese cities in the global distribution of international organizations is estimated. The results show that 22 Chi- nese cities are involved in international political affairs. Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou dominate these activities and have high po- litical global-city status. Secondly, through qualitative analysis of Guangzhou City, the authors explore how its status as a center for intemational organizations has been shaped in recent years. The locational decision-making process is analyzed and the factors are demonstrated at both national and city scales. The definition of international organizations as used in this study refers not only to those supranational bodies that have the ability to manage relations across states (such as the European Union), but also those in- ter-governmental organizations (IGOs), international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and diplomatic representatives and delegations that today also manage and regulate relations between and among states.展开更多

In this paper, we rigorously investigate the stability of the weighted spectral distribution(i.e., a spectral graph feature) as the network order increases. First, we use deterministic scale-free networks generated by a pseudo treelike model to derive the precise formula of the spectral feature, and then analyze the stability of the spectral feature based on the precise formula. Except for the scale-free feature, the pseudo tree-like model exhibits the hierarchical and small-world structures of complex networks. The stability analysis is useful for the classification of networks with different orders and the similarity analysis of networks that may belong to the same evolving system.展开更多

The US Army Research Laboratory (ARL) Military Open Simulator Enterprise Strategy (MOSES) project’s charter is to investigate simulation-based training technology for use in military specific training domains. Of particular interest are attributes of virtual worlds such as geographically distributed large-scale trainee support. We have initiated a series of experiments to determine appropriate benchmarks for simulator performance and to determine appropriate independent variables in order to create a robust predictive model that will enable virtual world training scenario designers to calculate, a priori, the number of trainees that may synchronously operate in a virtual world. The present paper’s purposes were to determine the effect that virtual world region fidelity had on server performance and determine whether this independent variable would be appropriate for inclusion into our predictive model. We found that region fidelity had a statistically significant effect on the simulator’s processor memory usage but had no significant effect on the simulator’s vertical scalability, CPU usage nor network performance. In this paper, we discourse on the purpose of this research, our experimental methodology and results, and discuss the significance of our findings.展开更多

However, recent research indicates that learning the distribution over returns has distinct advantages over learning their expected value as seen in different RL tasks. The shift from using the expectation of returns in traditional RL to the distribution over returns in distributional RL has provided new insights into the dynamics of RL. This paper builds on our recent work investigating the quantum approach towards RL. Our work implements the quantile regression (QR) distributional Q learning with a quantum neural network. This quantum network is evaluated in a grid world environment with a different number of quantiles, illustrating its detailed influence on the learning of the algorithm. It is also compared to the standard quantum Q learning in a Markov Decision Process (MDP) chain, which demonstrates that the quantum QR distributional Q learning can explore the environment more efficiently than the standard quantum Q learning. Efficient exploration and balancing of exploitation and exploration are major challenges in RL. Previous work has shown that more informative actions can be taken with a distributional perspective. Our findings suggest another cause for its success: the enhanced performance of distributional RL can be partially attributed to its superior ability to efficiently explore the environment.展开更多

Analysis shows that stochastic distribution of user queries accords with the characteristics of power-law function and exhibits strong similarity, and the user' s queries and clicked URLs present dramatic locality, which implies that query cache and 'hot click' cache can be employed to improve system performance. Then three typical cache replacement policies are compared, including LRU, FIFO, and LFU with attenuation. In addition, the distribution character-istics of web information are also analyzed, which demonstrates that the link popularity and replica pop-ularity of a URL have positive influence on its importance. Finally, variance between the link popularity and user popularity, and variance between replica popularity and user popularity are analyzed, which give us some important insight that helps us improve the ranking algorithms in a search engine.展开更多

It is based on implanting of universal control modules (that may be concealed) into key system points which collectively interpret complex but compact mission scenarios in a special high-level Distributed Scenario language (DSL). Self-evolving and self-spreading in networks, matching them in a super-virus mode, DSL scenarios can analyze their structures and states and set up any behavior needed, including creation of benign or elimination of unwanted infrastructures.
