For children less than 5 years old, non-surgical approach is recommended. For pediatric patients 5 - 14 years old, the most common mode of treatment is flexible intramedullary nailing with a known complication of pain at post-op site, inflammatory reaction/bursitis at the entry site, superficial and deep infection, knee synovitis, knee stiffness, leg length discrepancy, proximal nail migration, angulation or malunion, delayed and non-union, implant breakage. This study aims to present a rare complication of a femoral fracture fixed with flexible intramedullary nail. Methodology: We report the outcome of a 12-year-old male with peri implant fracture of the left femur. He underwent removal of plates and screws and subsequently fixed with flexible intramedullary nails. Patient was followed up at 1, 3, 7, and 10 months post-operatively. Varus-valgus, sagittal angulation, and limb shortening were measured pre- and post-operatively. Complications were recorded on each visit. Results: Pre-operative varus angulation was 10˚, pro-curvatum of 55˚ with limb shortening of 4 cm. Postoperatively, varus was maintained to 10˚ but pro-curvatum was corrected to 4˚ and limb shortening was reduced to 1 cm. However, after 1 month the varus angulation increased to 30˚ while maintaining sagittal pro-curvatum. Limb shortening also increased to 2 cm. New bone formation started to appear along the mechanical axis of the left femur which is apparent at 3 months post-op and pro-curvatum increased to 20˚. At 7 and 10 months post-op no signs of union was noted at the fracture site but the callus formation along the mechanical axis gradually matured and appeared as a new femoral shaft. Conclusion: Formation of new bone in response to unstable flexible intramedullary fixation in pediatric femoral shaft fracture is a very rare complication.展开更多

This study presents a new two-noded curved finite element for analyzing the in-plane static behaviors of curved nanobeams. Opposite to traditional curved finite elements developed by using approximate interpolation functions, the proposed curved finite element is developed by using exact analytical solutions. Although this approach was first introduced for analyzing the mechanical behaviors of macro-scale curved beams by adopting the local theory of elasticity, the exact analytical expressions used in this study were obtained from the solutions of governing equations that were expressed via the differential form of the nonlocal theory of elasticity. Therefore, the effects of shear strain and axial extension included in the analytical formulation are also inherited by the curved finite element developed here. The rigidity matrix and the consistent force vector are developed for a circular finite element. To demonstrate the applicability of the method, static analyses of various curved nanobeams subjected to different boundary conditions and loading scenarios are performed, and the obtained results are compared with the exact analytical ones. The presented study provides an accurate and low computational cost method for researchers to investigate the in-plane static behavior of curved nanobeams.展开更多

Here, we perform systematic studies on the elastic properties of the Cu–6wt% Ag alloy wire, which is a promising candidate material for the new-generation pulsed magnets, by employing two independent ultrasonic techniques, i.e., resonant ultrasound spectroscopy(RUS) and ultrasound pulse-echo experiments. Our RUS measurements manifest that the elastic properties of the Cu–6wt% Ag alloy wires can be improved by an electroplastic drawing procedure as compared with the conventional cold drawing. We also take this opportunity to test the availability of our newly-built ultrasound pulse-echo facility at the Wuhan National High Magnetic Field Center(WHMFC, China), and the results suggest that the elastic performance of the electroplastically-drawn Cu–6wt% Ag alloy wire remains excellent without anomalous softening under extreme conditions,e.g., in ultra-high magnetic field up to 50 T and nitrogen or helium cryogenic liquids.展开更多

The traction can be determined using inverse methods in which displacement or strain measurements are taken at several points on the body. This paper presents an inverse method based on the method of fundamental solutions for the traction identification problem in two-dimensional anisotropic elasticity. The method of fundamental solutions is an efficient boundary-type meshless method widely used for analyzing various problems. Since the problem is linear, the sensitivity analysis is simply performed by solving the corresponding direct problem several times with different loads. The effects of important parameters such as the number of measurement data, the position of the measurement points, the amount of measurement error, and the type of measurement, i.e., displacement or strain, on the results are also investigated. The results obtained show that the presented inverse method is suitable for the problem of traction identification. It can be concluded from the results that the use of strain measurements in the inverse analysis leads to more accurate results than the use of displacement measurements. It is also found that measurement points closer to the boundary with unknown traction provide more reliable solutions. Additionally, it is found that increasing the number of measurement points increases the accuracy of the inverse solution. However, in cases with a large number of measurement points, further increasing the number of measurement data has little effect on the results.展开更多

Results showed that the dynamic and static MOE of bluestained wood were higher than those of non-bluestained wood. The significant differences in dynamic MOE and static MOE were found between bulestained and non-bluestained wood, of which, the difference in each of three dynamic MOE (Ep. the ultrasonic wave modulus of elasticity, Ems, the stress wave modulus of elasticity and El, the longitudinal wave modulus of elasticity) between bulestained and non-bluestained wood arrived at the 0.01 significance level, whereas that in the static MOE at the 0.05 significance level. The differences in MOE between bulestained and non-bluestained wood were induced by the variation between sapwood and heartwood and the different densities of bulestained and non-bluestained wood. The correlation between dynamic MOE and static MOE was statistically significant at the 0.01 significance level. Although the dynamic MOE values of Ep, Em, Er were significantly different, there exists a close relationship between them (arriving at the 0.01 correlation level). Comparative analysis among the three techniques indicated that the accurateness of FFT was higher than that of Pundit and Metriguard. Effect of tree knots on MOE was also investigated. Result showed that the dynamic and static MOE gradually decreased with the increase of knot number, indicating that knot number had significant effect on MOE value.展开更多

The exact analytic solution of a Mode Ⅲ Griffith crack in the material was obtained by using the Fourier transform and dual integral equations theory, and so the displacement and stress fields, the stress intensity factor and strain energy release rate were determined. The results show that the stress intensity factor is independent of material constants, and the strain energy release rate is dependent on all material constants. These provide important information for studying the deformation and fracture of the new solid material.展开更多

A new higher-order differential equation of motion is derived from the variational principle with corresponding higher-order, non-classical boundary conditions. Two supporting conditions are investigated, i.e. simple supports and clamped supports. Effects of nonlocal nanoscale, dimensionless axial velocity, density and axial tension on natural frequencies are presented and discussed through numerical examples. It is found that these factors have great influence on the dynamic behaviour of an axially moving nanobeam. In particular, the nonlocal effect tends to induce higher vibration frequencies as compared to the results obtained from classical vibration theory. Analytical solutions for critical velocity of these nanobeams when the frequency vanishes are also derived and the influences of nonlocal nanoscale and axial tension on the critical velocity are discussed.展开更多

文摘Conductor materials with good mechanical performance as well as high electrical and thermal conductivities are particularly important to break through the current bottle-neck limit(~ 100 T) of pulsed magnets. We also take this opportunity to test the availability of our newly-built ultrasound pulse-echo facility at the Wuhan National High Magnetic Field Center(WHMFC, China), and the results suggest that the elastic performance of the electroplastically-drawn Cu–6wt% Ag alloy wire remains excellent without anomalous softening under extreme conditions,e.g., in ultra-high magnetic field up to 50 T and nitrogen or helium cryogenic liquids.

文摘In order to develop a generic framework capable of designing novel amorphous alloys with selected target properties,a predictor−corrector inverse design scheme(PCIDS)consisting of a predictor module and a corrector module was presented.A high-precision forward prediction model based on deep neural networks was developed to implement these two parts.Of utmost importance, domain knowledge-guided inverse design networks(DKIDNs)and regular inverse design networks(RIDNs)were also developed. The forward prediction model possesses a coefficient of determination(R^(2))of 0.990 for the shear modulus and 0.986 for the bulk modulus on the testing set.Furthermore, the DKIDNs model exhibits superior performance compared to the RIDNs model. It is finally demonstrated that PCIDS can efficiently predict amorphous alloy compositions with the required target properties.
文摘A new suspension gravity compensation system has been developed to alleviate the gravity effects on a two-dimensional(2D)deployable mechanism for ground verification.Considering the rigid-flexible coupling of both the rotating servo and the suspension system,a multi-body dynamic model simulating their integration is established using Lagrange’s equation. To mitigate instantaneous impact forces due to significant non-plumb effects from passive following in the horizontal direction,an elastic element is added in series with the rope in the vertical suspension system. The dynamic response of this elastic element relative to the rotating servo system is analyzed by the ADAMS software.Simulation results show that the compensating error decreases significantly from 45%to 0.31%when incorporating elastic elements compared to scenarios without such elements.Additionally,low-stiffness elastic elements demonstrate a higher compensating error than high-stiffness ones.A spring with a stiffness coefficient of 6 N/mm is selected in the experiment, ensuring that compensating error meets the design specification of 5%.

文摘In order to study the effects of the contents of used mortar recycled aggregate(OMRA)and brick recycled aggregate(BRA)on the deformation properties of recycled aggregate concrete(RAC),under uniaxial compression conditions,The RAC of OMRA(0%,5%,10%,and 15%)and BRA(0%,3%,6%,9%,12%,and 15%)were studied. The experimental results show that, under uniaxial compression, the interfacial relationships of RAC containing OMRA and BRA between different materials are more complex, and the failure mechanism is also more complex. The content of OMRA and BRA had significant influence on the deformation behavior of RAC.When the content of OMRA and BRA is high,it is difficult for existing formulas and models to accurately represent the actual value. In this study, the influence of OMRA and BRA content is taken into account, and the existing formulas for calculating concrete deformation are modified,so that these formulas can more accurately calculate the elastic modulus, peak strain and ultimate strain of recycled concrete. The stress-strain formula of Guo concrete fits the stress-strain curve of concrete very well.We modified the formula on the basis of Guo formula to make the formula more suitable for the stress-strain curve of recycled concrete containing old mortar and brick, and the theoretical model proposed has better fitting accuracy. The study provides a valuable reference for nonlinear analysis of recycled aggregate concrete structures under different proportions of OMRA and BRA.

文摘The identification of the traction acting on a portion of the surface of an anisotropic solid is very important in structural health monitoring and optimal design of structures. However, in cases with a large number of measurement points, further increasing the number of measurement data has little effect on the results.

文摘This paper investigates the active traveling wave vibration control of an elastic supported rotating porous aluminium conical shell(CS)under impact loading.Piezoelectric smart materials in the form of micro fiber composites(MFCs)are used as actuators and sensors. To this end,a metal pore truncated CS with MFCs attached to its surface is considered.Adding artificial virtual springs at two edges of the truncated CS achieves various elastic supported boundaries by changing the spring stiffness.Based on the first-order shear deformation theory(FSDT),minimum energy principle, and artificial virtual spring technology, the theoretical formulations considering the electromechanical coupling are derived. The comparison of the natural frequency of the present results with the natural frequencies reported in previous literature evaluates the accuracy of the present approach. To study the vibration control, the integral quadrature method in conjunction with the differential quadrature approximation in the length direction is used to discretize the partial differential dynamical system to form a set of ordinary differential equations. With the aid of the velocity negative feedback method, both the time history and the input control voltage on the actuator are demonstrated to present the effects of velocity feedback gain, pore distribution type,semi-vertex angle, impact loading, and rotational angular velocity on the traveling wave vibration control.

文摘To investigate the wind⁃induced vibration re⁃sponse characteristics of multispan double⁃layer cable photo⁃voltaic(PV)support structures, wind tunnel tests using an aeroelastic model were carried out to obtain the wind⁃induced vibration response data of a three⁃span four⁃row double⁃layer cable PV support system. The wind⁃induced vibration characteristics with different PV module tilt angles, wind speeds, and wind direction angles were analyzed. The results showed that the double⁃layer cable large⁃span flexible PV support can effectively control the wind⁃induced vibration response and prevent the occur⁃rence of flutter under strong wind conditions. The maxi⁃mum value of the wind⁃induced vibration displacement of the flexible PV support system occurs in the windward first row.The upstream module has a significant shading effect on the downstream module, with a maximum effect of 23%.The most unfavorable wind direction angles of the structure are 0°and 180°.The change of the wind direction angle in the range of 0°to 30°has little effect on the wind vi⁃bration response. The change in the tilt angle of the PV modules has a greater impact on the wind vibration in the downwind direction and a smaller impact in the upwind di⁃rection.Special attention should be paid to the structural wind⁃resistant design of such systems in the upwind side span.

文摘The dynamic and static modulus of elasticity (MOE) between bluestained and non-bluestained lumber of Lodgepole pine were tested and analyzed by using three methods of Non-destructive testing (NDT), Portable Ultrasonic Non-destructive Digital Indicating Testing (Pundit), Metriguard and Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and the normal bending method. Result showed that the dynamic and static MOE gradually decreased with the increase of knot number, indicating that knot number had significant effect on MOE value.
文摘The fracture theory of cubic quasicrystal was developed. These provide important information for studying the deformation and fracture of the new solid material.

文摘In this article, transverse free vibrations of axially moving nanobeams subjected to axial tension are studied based on nonlocal stress elasticity theory. Analytical solutions for critical velocity of these nanobeams when the frequency vanishes are also derived and the influences of nonlocal nanoscale and axial tension on the critical velocity are discussed.
