It is associated with both maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. The general objective of our study is to determine the prevalence and profile of pregnant women, and to assess the maternal and perinatal prognosis of adolescent childbirth in Kisangani. Methods: This was a prospective, multicenter, case-control observational study conducted over a seven-month period, from February 1 to August 31, 2024, in primiparous adolescent gestational carriers (cases) and primiparous gestational carriers aged 20 to 34 years (controls) who delivered in five health facilities in the city of Kisangani, Democratic Republic of Congo. Results: The prevalence of teenage childbirth was 13.8%. Adolescents were more likely than controls to be in secondary education and to be unemployed. Compared with controls, pregnant adolescents were more likely to have poor ANC attendance. There was a statistical difference between the two groups in relation to pelvic anomaly, rupture of membranes on admission, hypertensive disorders, vicious presentation, caesarean section, episiotomy, postpartum anaemia and puerperal psychosis. In fact, these morbidities were more common in adolescent girls than in controls. Compared with controls, neonatal depression, prematurity, low birth weight and perinatal death were more prevalent in the newborns of teenage mothers. Conclusion: The prevalence of teenage childbirth is high in Kisangani;there is an association between unmarried status, lack of employment, low socio-economic status, poor ANC follow-up and teenage childbirth in Kisangani. The latter is also associated with high maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality.展开更多

This study was aimed to determine the prevalence of erectile dysfunction and its determinants. Methods: A cross-sectional hospital-based study was carried out in the Diabetology Units of the Buea and Limbe Regional Hospitals involving 332 male patients with diabetes and aged over 21 years. Data was analyzed using Stata and R version 3.5.3. Results: The mean age of the participants was 55years. Most participants (64.46%) were married. About half (50.60%) of the participants actively consumed alcohol, 11.45% were smokers and 57.83% were sedentary. 18 participants (5.42%) recorded high risk sexual behaviour. 54.32% of participants had a comorbidity and 43.90% were overweight. The prevalence of diabetic ED was 78.92%. Age, Fasting Blood Sugar and Glycated hemoglobin were found to be positive determinants of diabetic ED (odds ratio (OR) = 0.77, 95% CI −0.1 - 0.07). Conclusion: The prevalence of diabetic ED in this hospital population study is high, and both physician and patient—initiated measures are needed to reduce this prevalence and improve awareness, recognition and care of this condition.展开更多

Low-income countries such as Uganda have the greatest burden of severe and life-threatening infections and are most likely to suffer more from the spread of untreatable resistant bacteria. Despite the generally increasing trends in AMR, there is hardly any documented data on AMR in orthopedic care. Methods: We analyzed data from the pathogenic isolates from pus and tissue from the laboratory from 2019 to 2023. We calculated the proportions of isolates resistant to commonly used antimicrobial classes. We used the chi-square test for trends to evaluate changes in AMR across the study period. Results: Out of the 286 isolates, 104 (43.5%) were from pus, 112 (46.9%) were from tissue samples and the remaining 9.6% were from different fluid aspirates like synovial fluid. Most of the isolates were from males (64.2%) and aged between 19 and 45 years (46.2%). The distribution of whether the bacteria were gram-positive or negative was relatively equal with 114 (45.2%) being gram-negative and 120 (47.6%) gram-positive. Generally, there was increased AMR across all antibiotics from 2019 to 2021 e.g. for Imipinem, it went from 0% in 2019 to 70.8% in 2021 and for Amoxyclav, it went from 10% in 2019 to 93.2% in 2021. There was a general decline in AMR noted from 2021 to 2023. However, currently, the highest resistance is noted in ceftriaxone (80.0%) and the lowest in Imipinem (11.76%). Conclusion: There is a general decreasing trend in AMR, most probably due to increasing policies governing the use of antibiotics. However, there is still high resistance to commonly used and affordable antibiotics. Continuous monitoring of AMR is still recommended to reduce the AMR problem in Uganda at large through public health policy and planning.展开更多

Researchers utilized a cross-sectional design to assess HTN prevalence and its risk factors among college students (N = 123). Self-administered surveys comprising four validated questionnaires: the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Rapid Eating Assessment for Participants-Shortened (REAPS), Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension Quality (DASH-Q), and the U.S. Adult Food Security Survey (FSS) were employed. Additionally, physical measurements were conducted, including height, weight, waist circumference (WC), and BP. Results indicated that 71.6% of students had elevated BP, with 24.4% classified as Stage 1 HTN and 23.6% as Stage 2 HTN. Notably, 60% of students reported low adherence to the DASH diet and a mean REAPS score of 26.3 out of 39. Students experiencing marginal food security had higher systolic blood pressure (SBP) 131.7 ± 16.8 mm Hg compared to those with high food security 123.03 ± 11.7 mm Hg (p = 0.028). Furthermore, REAPS scores showed a negative correlation with diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (β = −0.201, p = 0.03). Significant predictors for SBP included WC (β = 0.40, p β = −0.33, p β = 0.16, p = 0.046). The findings highlight the need for BP screenings and nutrition education programs to improve dietary habits among college students, which may help reduce HTN and its associated long-term risks for CVD.展开更多

It is a common obstetric tragedy in our delivery rooms in countries with limited resources, reflecting the poor quality of obstetric care and, consequently, an unmet obstetric need. Methods: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study with prospective data collection over a four-year period from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2023 at the University Hospital Centre (CHU) of Bouaké, in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department. The variables studied were epidemiological characteristics, therapeutic aspects and factors associated with maternal. Results: The prevalence of uterine rupture was 0.63%. The average age was 32, with patients aged 35 and over accounting for 33.68%, married 44.21% and 70% not in education. Patients with uterine rupture had been evacuated in 85.26% of cases. Uterine rupture was diagnosed in 97.89% of cases during labour. Maternal lethality due to rupture was 15.79%. The causes of maternal death were dominated by haemorrhagic shock (53.33%). Factors statistically associated with death were age ≥ 35 years (OR: 3.14), duration of labour ≥ 12 hours (OR: 5.8), multiparity (OR: 19.04), admission delay beyond 2 hours (OR: 4.36), haemoglobin level ≤ 7 g/dl (OR: 36.84), coma or obnubilation (OR: 71.82), haemorrhagic shock (OR: 243.94) and occurrence of post-operative complications (OR: 76.45). Conclusion: The frequency of uterine rupture remains significant in the department (0.63%), with maternal mortality still high (15.79%). The key to reducing uterine rupture and its consequences lies in timely referral and early, appropriate management.展开更多

The aim of our study was to assess a series of work-related accidents that occurred in a cardboard packaging manufacturing company in Abidjan from 2012 to 2019 and to determine the consequences for the victims and the company. We’ve carried out a retrospective study of all work-related injuries reported to the National Social Insurance Fund of Cote d’Ivoire from 2012 to 2019 using the company’s work-related accidents’ register and investigation reports. Results: The prevalence of work-related injuries among the workers was 84% for the manual workers and 16% for the supervisors. The trends in the prevalence of work-related injuries were upwards, with a slow and almost linear progression over the period of study. Most of the accidents (53%) occurred in the process area. The upper limbs were the most common location of injuries (46%) and almost all the cases were declared cured. The cumulative direct costs of the TAs over the 8 years were 46,185,533 FCFA, or 70409.39 euros. The average direct annual cost was 624,129 CFA francs, or 951.47 euros. The average annual indirect cost was 41,265,576 CFA francs. The cumulative amount of indirect costs was 330,124,611 CFA francs over the 8 years. The indirect costs accumulated over the 8 years represented 98.17% of the cumulative economic cost of work accidents. Discussion: The assessment of the socioeconomic impact of these work-related injuries revealed that indirect costs which are usually ignored nor underestimated by the employers represent a minimum direct/indirect ratio of 1/27. Conclusion: Prevention is the best option to anticipate or mitigate the impact of work-related accidents among the victims.展开更多

Its prevalence is increasing due to the perpetuity of carriers of the trait who are able to marry. Women aged 18 to 35 years constitute the most reproductive age group. This study was conducted with the aim of determining the prevalence of sickle cell trait among women aged 18 to 35 years and the attitude of women carriers towards the choice of a carrier spouse. Materials and methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study with analytical aims conducted from March to September 2024 in Kisangani. A total of 215 women aged 18 to 35 years presented for screening for sickle cell trait. This study described the following parameters: Sociodemographic data (age, level of education, socioeconomic level, marital status), obstetric and medical history (obstetric formula, sickle cell disease, high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, asthma), knowledge of sickle cell disease (etiological classification, transmission, prevention, high-risk marriages, clinical manifestations, progression of the disease), attitude of the woman in relation to the choice of an AS spouse, as well as the reasons justifying each attitude. Results: The prevalence of sickle cell trait was 23.7% (51/215). A total of 64.3% of respondents had accepted the choice of spouse before confirmation of carrier status and 73.8% had refused after confirmation of carrier status. Choice was significantly related to age (p-value = 0.027), occupation (p-value = 0.015), parity (p-value = 0.039) and gesture (p-value = 0.034) before test. The ignorance of the union at risk was associated with the risk (p = 0.005;OR: 9.10;CI 95%: 2.03 - 4.81) of accepting the choice of a spouse carrying the trait. Conclusion: The prevalence of sickle cell trait among women aged 18 to 35 years in Kisangani remains within the limits of that of the general population. The choice of a spouse carrying sickle cell trait is associated with the woman’s age, her profession, parity, gestation and her knowledge about high-risk unions. Screening campaigns and health education sessions enable women carrying sickle cell trait to make a wise choice.展开更多

This study aimed to assess the prevalence of these conditions in the urban commune of Dubréka, in Guinea, and to assess the role of demographic and cultural factors in their incidence and management. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 287 participants (174 women and 113 men) in Dubréka. Data were summer collected on the characteristics of sociodemographics, BMI, blood pressure and fasting blood glucose. The prevalence of hypertension and diabetes was determined, and participants’ knowledge and treatment practices were assessed in the summer. The prevalence of hypertension in the study population was 73.52%, affecting both sexes, with women presenting a higher prevalence. The prevalence of diabetes is slightly higher (75.29%) than that of men (70.79%) was 36.59%, with men (38.05%) being slightly more affected than women (35.63%). Obesity and overweight were contributory important factors, affecting respectively 25.78% and 37.28% of the population. Among the hypertensive people, 84.83% were aware of their condition, but only 7.26% received treatment, with no case-controlled hypertension having no summer observed. Socio-economic factors, including the urban setting and proximity to the capital, have probably contributed to these results. The high prevalence of hypertension and diabetes in Dubréka reflects the broader epidemiological transition in sub-Saharan Africa, with women being disproportionately affected by hypertension linked to obesity. Access limited to health care, especially in terms of treatment and care, further aggravates the burden of these diseases. Public health interventions are urgently needed to improve awareness, treatment accessibility and culturally appropriate management strategies adapted to fight against the growing burden of NCDs in Guinea peri-urban.展开更多

They are used to prevent bone metastases in cancer and treat osteoporosis. However, a major side effect is osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ), first reported in 2003, which is the exposure of necrotic bone in the mouth, often accompanied by infection. Prevention and treatment of ONJ remain challenging due to a lack of reliable epidemiological data on its incidence and risk factors. The aim of our work is to estimate the prevalence of bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ) and to analyze its correlations with different risk factors reported in the literature. Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted in the Oncology, Rheumatology and Maxillofacial Surgery Department of the Mohamed VI University Hospital;Marrakech, based on complete medical records during the period 2017 to 2022, as well as consultations of patients under bisphosphonates in these departments during July and August 2022. Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS version 16.0. Results: Of the 107 patients included in this study, 60.7% were women, and 56.1% were between 40 and 65 years old. 100% of the patients suffered from a general pathology. Regarding treatment with BP, 103 patients were treated with Zoledronate, 4 with Risedronate, and 5 with Ibandronate. 103 patients received this treatment intravenously, while 4 patients received it orally. Regarding Oral health, only 12.1% of patients reported a poor oral health. 99.1% of patients were informed of the need for oral preparation prior to BP treatment, but only 71.02% received dental treatment, mainly tooth extraction. None of the patients were diagnosed with BRONJ. Conclusions: While the global incidence of ONJ ranges from 0.8% to 12%, our finding is zero. Most previous studies are retrospective with limited patient numbers like our study. To accurately assess the prevalence of ONJ, further prospective epidemiological studies with standardized protocols and thorough follow-up over several years are essential.展开更多

This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of tick-borne hemoparasites in Cameroon, with a specific focus on the Noun and Nde Divisions of the West Region. Methodology: A total of 423 cattle from 10 villages in both divisions were included in the study. Blood smears were prepared and subjected to microscopic screening for Babesia and Anaplasma parasites. Results: The prevalence of Anaplasma was found to be 23.4%, while Babesia exhibited a seroprevalence of 17.3%. Samples from Institute of Agricultural Research for Development (IRAD) and Koupa Ngangnou demonstrated significantly higher prevalence rates, potentially influenced by climate variations affecting tick populations. Additionally, 17.3% of the animals exhibited low hematocrit levels, indicative of anemia. No significant associations were observed between the presence of hemoparasite infection and cattle characteristics. Conclusion: This study provides fundamental data on the extensive distribution and impact of tick-borne hemoparasites in a significant cattle-producing region of Cameroon.展开更多

This complex and multifactorial disease poses a significant challenge to dairy camel farming, particularly in Somalia. The studys objective was to determine the prevalence of mastitis and the risk factors associated with it among lactating camels on dairy farms in Benadir, Somalia. To achieve this, a cross-sectional study was conducted from May to September 2022 in the Benadir region of Somalia. A total of 96 lactating camels underwent examination using the California Mastitis Test (CMT) to identify clinical and subclinical mastitis cases. Additionally, a questionnaire survey was conducted among 20 farm employees/owners to gather information on hygiene practices, parity, lactation stage, tick infestation, and the presence of udder/teat lesions. Data regarding parity and lactation stage were obtained through owner interviews. The data collected on specifically designed forms were recorded and entered into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet for analysis using SPSS version 20 statistical software, ensuring a comprehensive and reliable analysis of the data. The studys findings revealed a significant prevalence of camel mastitis, with 34.4% (33/96) of lactating camels affected and clinical and subclinical cases constituting 5.2% and 29.2%, respectively. Quarter-level prevalence was 46.3%, with clinical and subclinical mastitis at 4.7% and 41.6%, respectively. The study also identified significant associations (P < 0.05) among risk factors such as stage of lactation, parity, and age, indicating a higher susceptibility to mastitis in older camels during early lactation compared to those in late lactation and younger camels. These findings underscore the crucial role of inadequate hygienic conditions on camel farms and udder tick infestations in driving the elevated prevalence of mastitis, highlighting the need for improved management practices in dairy farming in Benadir, Somalia. Effective interventions, including improved management practices and extension services, are essential to reduce the burden of mastitis in dairy camels.展开更多

Khan defines anaemia as below level of Haemoglobin in red blood shown by a lower number of functioning red blood cells [2]. The crisis in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon has led to several negative effects on children’s living conditions. There has been an increase in malnutrition and anaemia in the South West Region and Kumba in particular. The main objective of this study was “to examine the prevalence of malnutrition and anaemia in children ≤ 5 years of age in some conflict-hit areas of Meme Division”. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 2023 from March to June. We recruited 200 children ≤ 5 years into the study from three hospitals. The regional hospital annex in Kumba, Presbyterian General Hospital Kumba and the Ntam Hospital in Kumba. Socio-demographic factors were assessed using questionnaire, nutritional status was assessed by the use anthropometric measurements and an auto haematology analyser was used to determine anaemia. The overall prevalence of malnutrition in the study area was 40.5%. The prevalence of malnutrition varied significantly (P < 0.001) with the study sites. The overall prevalence of anaemia in the study area was 70.5%. The prevalence of anaemia was not significantly associated with the study sites. The prevalence of Malnutrition and Anaemia in children ≤ 5 years of age is very high in the Kumba municipalities. This could be attributed to the ongoing crisis which has caused a lot of social migrations from rural areas to Urban areas which are safer.展开更多

Research and management of risk factors contribute to the prevention of these diseases. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of dyslipidemia in the biochemistry unit of the Charles De Gaulle Pediatric University Hospital (CHUP-CDG) in Ouagadougou. Material and Methods: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study, with retrospective data collection from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022. Patients of all ages who performed a lipid panel in the CHUP-CDG biochemistry unit during the study period have been included. Results: A total of 2872 patients have been included. The mean age of the study population was 27.72 ± 19.51 years and the M/F sex ratio was 0.81. Among the patients, 22.84% had at least one dyslipidemia. The prevalences of hypercholesterolemia, hypo-HDL cholesterolemia and hyper-LDL cholesterolemia were 11.57%, 49.19% and 57.50% respectively. Hypertriglyceridemia and mixed hyperlipidemia were present in 9.04% and 2.08% of patients. Hypercholesterolemia was significantly more frequent in the female sex (p = 0.0077);hyper-LDL cholesterolemia (p = 0.0255) and mixed hyperlipidemia (p Conclusion: The relatively high prevalence of dyslipidemia in the study indicates a worrying situation. It would therefore appear essential to extend the search for risk factors nationwide, particularly those that can be modified, in order to reduce morbidity and mortality linked to cardiovascular disease.展开更多

文摘BACKGROUND Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)infection is a prevalent disease encountered in military internal medicine and recognized as the main cause of dyspepsia, gastritis, and peptic ulcer, which are common diseases in military personnel.Current guidelines in China state all patients with evidence of active infection with H.pylori are offered treatment. However, the prevalence of H.pylori infection and its regional distribution in the military population remain unclear, which hinders effective prevention and treatment strategies.Understanding the prevalence of H.pylori infection in the military population will aid in the development of customized strategies to better manage this infectious disease.AIM To investigate the prevalence of H.pylori infection in the Chinese military population in different geographic areas.METHODS This multicenter, retrospective study included 22421 individuals from five tertiary hospitals located in north, east, southwest, and northwest cities of China.H.pylori infection was identified using the urea breath test, which had been performed between January 2020 and December 2021.RESULTS Of the 22421 military service members,7416(33.1%)were urea breath test-positive.The highest prevalence of H.pylori was in the 30-39 years age group for military personnel, with an infection rate of 34.9%.The majority of infected subjects were younger than 40-years-old,accounting for 70.4%of the infected population. The individuals serviced in Lanzhou and Chengdu showed a higher infection prevalence than those in Beijing,Nanjing, and Guangzhou, with prevalence rates of 44.3%,37.9%,29.0%,31.1%,and 32.3%,respectively.CONCLUSION H.pylori infection remains a common infectious disease among military personnel in China and has a relatively high prevalence rate in northwest China.
文摘Introduction: Adolescent childbirth is a public health and social problem worldwide. The latter is also associated with high maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality.
文摘Background: Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common, bothersome and relatively under diagnosed complication of diabetes mellitus. Conclusion: The prevalence of diabetic ED in this hospital population study is high, and both physician and patient—initiated measures are needed to reduce this prevalence and improve awareness, recognition and care of this condition.
文摘Background: Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) has been recognized as a global public health problem of utmost importance that needs to be tackled. Continuous monitoring of AMR is still recommended to reduce the AMR problem in Uganda at large through public health policy and planning.
文摘Early onset of hypertension (HTN) raises the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), the leading cause of death in the U.S. For university students who do not follow healthy diets or lifestyles, high blood pressure (BP) may be markedly prevalent. The findings highlight the need for BP screenings and nutrition education programs to improve dietary habits among college students, which may help reduce HTN and its associated long-term risks for CVD.
文摘Introduction: Uterine rupture is certainly one of the most serious, as it immediately jeopardises the vital prognosis of the mother and foetus. The key to reducing uterine rupture and its consequences lies in timely referral and early, appropriate management.
文摘Introduction: Work-related accidents constitute are a public health concern worldwide. Conclusion: Prevention is the best option to anticipate or mitigate the impact of work-related accidents among the victims.
文摘Introduction: Sickle cell disease is one of the most common autosomal recessive inherited diseases. Screening campaigns and health education sessions enable women carrying sickle cell trait to make a wise choice.
文摘Hypertension high blood pressure (HTN) and diabetes Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) growing in sub-Saharan Africa, under the effect of urbanization, changes in socio-economic and lifestyle-related factors. Public health interventions are urgently needed to improve awareness, treatment accessibility and culturally appropriate management strategies adapted to fight against the growing burden of NCDs in Guinea peri-urban.
文摘Background: Bisphosphonates are compounds similar to inorganic pyrophosphates, with anti-angiogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-bone resorption, and antitumor effects. To accurately assess the prevalence of ONJ, further prospective epidemiological studies with standardized protocols and thorough follow-up over several years are essential.

文摘BACKGROUND Atrial fibrillation(AF)is a common cardiac arrhythmia in the elderly. This study aimed to evaluate urban-rural disparities in its prevalence and management in elderly Chinese.METHODS Consecutive participants aged≥65 years attending outpatient clinics were enrolled for AF screening using handheld single-lead electrocardiogram(ECG)from April 2017 to December 2022.Each ECG rhythm strip was reviewed from the research team.AF or uninterpretable single-lead ECGs were referred for 12-lead ECG.Primary study outcome comparison was between rural and urban areas for the prevalence of AF.The Student’s t-test was used to compare mean values of clinical characteristics between rural and urban participants, while the Pearson’s chi-square test was used to compare between-group proportions.Multivariate stepwise logistic regression analysis was performed to estimate the association between AF and various patient characteristics.RESULTS The 29,166 study participants included 13,253 men(45.4%)and had a mean age of 72.2 years. The 7073 rural participants differed significantly(P≤0.02)from the 22,093 urban participants in several major characteristics, such as older age, greater body mass index, and so on.The overall prevalence of AF was 4.6%(n=1347).AF was more prevalent in 7073 rural participants than 22,093 urban participants(5.6%vs.4.3%,P<0.01),before and after adjustment for age, body mass index, blood pressure, pulse rate, cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption and prior medical history.Multivariate logistic regression analysis identified overweight/obesity(OR=1.35,95%CI:1.17–1.54)in urban areas and cigarette smoking(OR=1.62,95%CI:1.20–2.17)and alcohol consumption(OR=1.42,95%CI:1.04–1.93)in rural areas as specific risk factors for prevalent AF.In patients with known AF in urban areas(n=781)and rural areas(n=338),60.6%and 45.9%,respectively,received AF treatment(P<0.01),and only 22.4%and 17.2%,respectively,received anticoagulation therapy(P=0.05).CONCLUSIONS In China, there are urban-rural disparities in AF in the elderly, with a higher prevalence and worse management in rural areas than urban areas. Our study findings provide insight for health policymakers to consider urban-rural disparity in the prevention and treatment of AF.
文摘BACKGROUND Fear of childbirth(FoC)is a widespread issue that impacts the health and well-being of mothers and newborns. However, there is inconsistency regarding the prevalence of FoC in the and there is limited research on the prevalence of FoC among Australian pregnant women.AIM To investigate the prevalence of FoC,its risk factors and birth outcomes in Aust-ralian multiparous women.METHODS In this prospective cohort quantitative study,212 multiparous women were re-cruited from antenatal clinics at Westmead Hospital in western Sydney from 2019 to 2022.Pregnant women who attended antenatal visits and met the inclusion criteria signed the consent forms and completed several online questionnaires at baseline. After they gave birth, their birth outcomes were collected from the hospital’s medical record database. The data were analyzed using SPSS software and descriptive statistics,χ^(2)test,independent samples t-test,and multivariable logistic regression analysis.RESULTS Out of 212 participants,24%experienced a high level of FoC and 7%experienced severe FoC.Theχ^(2)test results revealed that a family income of≤$100000,no alcohol intake during pregnancy,pre-existing health problems, previous caesarean section(emergency or planned),and previous neutral/traumatic childbirth experiences were significantly associated with higher levels of FoC(P<0.05).Other risk factors included being moderately to very worried and fearful about the upcoming birth, having severe to extremely severe anxiety throughout pregnancy, and expressing low relationship satisfaction.According to multivariable logistic regression, the odds of a high level of FoC were higher in women with anxiety,a history of traumatic childbirth experience,a history of sexual assault during childhood,pre-existing health problems, and lower relationship satisfaction(P<0.05).CONCLUSION High-severe levels of FoC are experienced by pregnant multiparous women and are affected by several demo-graphic factors. However, due to the small sample size in the present study, further studies with larger sample sizes are required to draw a firm conclusion on the prevalence of severe FoC among multiparous women and its associated risk factors and birth outcomes.
文摘This study investigated the spatio-temporal variation characteristics of ecosystem service value(ESV)alongside its driving influencing factors, thereby offering valuable theoretical insights for the sustainable development of Jingzhou City,Hubei Province.Based on the land use data for Jingzhou City from 2000 to 2020,this study quantified the value of the ecological environment using the equivalent factor method.Furthermore,it analyzed and elucidated the spatio-temporal heterogeneity and driving mechanisms of ecosystem services in Jingzhou City. The results indicated that between 2000 and 2020,cultivated land(66.40%)and water area(18.82%)were the predominant land use types in Jingzhou City. The areas of water area and construction land exhibited a growth trend during this period.Construction land had the highest rate of land use change, followed by water area and cultivated land.Land use transitions primarily occurred between cultivated land and water area,as well as between cultivated land and construction land. The total value of ecosystem services in Jingzhou City increased by 165.07%from 2000 to 2020.ESV exhibited an upward trend from 2000 to 2015,followed by a gradual decline from 2015 to 2020.The ranking of individual ecosystem services,in descending order, was as follows:regulation services, supporting services, provisioning services, and cultural services.High-value ESV areas were predominantly situated in the water area of Lake Honghu, while low-value regions were mainly found in the cultivated land in the central and western parts of Jingzhou City. The spatial differentiation of ESV in Jingzhzou City was influenced by both natural and socio-economic factors, with natural factors exerting a more significant impact than socioeconomic factors.Specifically, the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI)was the dominant environmental factor, while GDP plays a synergistic role.

文摘Background The prevalence of prolonged grief disorder(PGD)and its symptoms among the bereaved population in China vary considerably.Aims This meta-analysis aims to estimate the prevalence of PGD and its symptoms among bereaved individuals in China. Methods We conducted a literature search in major Chinese and English databases from their inception to 4 October 2023,for cross-sectional studies on the prevalence of PGD or its symptoms in bereaved Chinese individuals. The risk of bias of the included studies and certainty of the evidence were assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist for Studies Reporting Prevalence Data(‘JBI checklist’)and the Grading of Recommendations,Assessment,Development and Evaluations(GRADE),respectively. The‘metaprop’package in R V.4.1.2 was used to synthesise the prevalence. Results A total of 28 studies involving 10994 bereaved individuals were included in the analysis, with JBI checklist scores between 3 and 7.The combined prevalence(95%confidence interval)of PGD and its symptoms was 8.9%(4.2%to 17.6%)and 32.4%(18.2%to 50.8%),respectively.PGD and its symptoms were most prevalent among those who had lost their only child(22.7%)and those bereaved by earthquakes(80.4%),respectively.The GRADE system assigned a very low certainty level to the evidence for the pooled prevalence of PGD and its symptoms. Conclusions The pooled prevalence of PGD and its symptoms indicate a potential high need for grief counselling services among bereaved individuals in China. This need is particularly pronounced in those who have lost their only child and those bereaved due to earthquakes.Further methodologically rigorous studies are needed to provide more accurate prevalence estimates.PROSPERO registration number CRD42023432553.
文摘BACKGROUND Clubfoot,or congenital talipes equinovarus,is a widely recognized cause of disability and congenital deformity worldwide, which significantly impacts the quality of life.Effective management of clubfoot requires long-term,multidiscip-linary intervention. It is important to understand how common this condition is in order to assess its impact on the population.Unfortunately, few studies have investigated the prevalence of clubfoot in Saudi Arabia.AIM To determine the prevalence of clubfoot in Saudi Arabia via the patient population at King Fahad University Hospital(KFUH).METHODS This was a retrospective study conducted at one of the largest hospitals in the country and located in one of the most densely populated of the administrative regions.RESULTS Of the 7792 births between 2015 to 2023 that were included in the analysis,42 patients were diagnosed with clubfoot, resulting in a prevalence of 5.3 per 1000 live births at KFUH.CONCLUSION The observed prevalence of clubfoot was significantly higher than both global and local estimates, indicating a substantial burden in the study population.
文摘Background and Objective: Tick-borne hemoparasitic illnesses pose a serious threat to the well-being and productivity of cattle. Conclusion: This study provides fundamental data on the extensive distribution and impact of tick-borne hemoparasites in a significant cattle-producing region of Cameroon.
文摘The study took a comprehensive approach to understanding mastitis in lactating camels, a disease that significantly impacts milk quantity and quality. Effective interventions, including improved management practices and extension services, are essential to reduce the burden of mastitis in dairy camels.
文摘Malnutrition refers to the deficiency, imbalances, or excesses in a person’s intake of energy or nutrients [1]. This could be attributed to the ongoing crisis which has caused a lot of social migrations from rural areas to Urban areas which are safer.
文摘Introduction: Cardiovascular disease represents a major public health burden worldwide. It would therefore appear essential to extend the search for risk factors nationwide, particularly those that can be modified, in order to reduce morbidity and mortality linked to cardiovascular disease.
文摘Background Previous studies have extensively investigated traditional predictors of cardiovascular disease(CVD)development, progression, and prognosis. However, the influence of novel indicators such as Klotho,on CVD prevalence and prognosis in the general population remains unclear.Method This was an observational study that utilized cross-sectional and longitudinal methods to examine the general population in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(NHANES)2007-2016.The participants were divided into four groups according to the Klotho quartiles.Primary outcome was CVD[coronary artery disease(CAD),congestive heart failure, and stroke],secondary outcomes were all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality.Survey-weighted binary logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the association between Klotho and the prevalence of primary outcome, and the restricted cubic spline(RCS)curve was used to further analyze the nonlinear relationship.Subgroup analyses were conducted to investigate the association between Klotho values and CVD prevalence using survey-weighted binary logistic regression. The incidence of the secondary outcomes among four groups was assessed through Kaplan-Meier survival analysis.Additionally, the relationship between Klotho values and secondary endpoints was explored using survey-weighted Cox proportional hazards regression across various patient subpopulations. Results A total of 12,146 participants(56.8±10.7 years,48.5%male)were included in our study. The total incidence of CVD was 9.9%(n=1201),of which 4.7%(n=574)were CAD,3.7%(n=454)were congestive heart failure, and 4.1%(n=497)were stroke.Binary logistics regression analysis showed that higher Klotho quartiles were associated with the decreased prevalence of CVD[Quartile 4 vs.Quartile 1:odds ratio(OR)(95%CI):0.77(0.64-0.93),P=0.006]and congestive heart failure[Quartile 4 vs.Quartile 1:0.75(0.56-0.99),P=0.048],However,no significant associations were found between Klotho levels and the outcomes of CAD or stroke.RCS curve illustrated a high Klotho value was negatively correlated with the prevalence of CVD(nonlinear P=0.838),congestive heart failure(nonlinear P=0.110)and stroke(nonlinear P=0.972).No significant interactions were observed in any subgroups regarding the associations between Klotho and prevalence of CVD.After a median follow-up period of 93 months(range:from 1 to 160 months),there were 1228 cases(10.1%)of all-cause mortality in the general population, including 296 cases(2.4%)of cardiovascular mortality. The Kaplan-Meier curves indicated that lower Klotho levels were associated with a significant increase in all-cause mortality across the general population,CVD population, and non-CVD population. As Klotho levels decreased, there was also a notable rise in cardiovascular mortality in both the general population and the CVD population. In the overall population,Cox regression analyses demonstrated that higher Klotho values were associated with a decreased risk of both all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. And no significant interaction was observed in the CVD subgroup regarding the association between Klotho and mortality. Conclusion High Klotho level was associated with low prevalence of CVD and low risk of mortality in general population.
