Pre-cooling the inlet air of a dry cooling tower by means of a spray can improve the tower performance during periods of high temperature.To study the spray effect on the thermal performance of natural draft dry cooli...Pre-cooling the inlet air of a dry cooling tower by means of a spray can improve the tower performance during periods of high temperature.To study the spray effect on the thermal performance of natural draft dry cooling towers(NDDCTs),in this study 3-D numerical simulations of such a process have been conducted using Fluent 16.2(a two-way coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian approach).The considered NDDCT is 120 m high and only half system is simulated due to its structural symmetry.Three different spray strategies have been investigated at a typical crosswind speed of 4 m/s,which is the most frequent wind speed.The results have shown that:(1)The three implemented spray strategies can improve the thermal performance of the studied NDDCT with a vary-ing degree of success.In one case,the heat rejection rate can be increased by 35.2%,and the tower outlet water temperature can be decreased by 2.1℃ when compared with the no spray case;(2)To improve the thermal per-formance of the NDDCT using a small amount of water,the design of the spray pre-cooling system must include more nozzles on the windward and fewer or even no nozzles on the leeward sides of the NDDCT.展开更多
Catch,bycatch and discard information is important for the assessment and management of fisheries.Using Chinese pelagic tuna longline observer data from 2010 to 2018,we studied the catch composition in the Chinese pel...Catch,bycatch and discard information is important for the assessment and management of fisheries.Using Chinese pelagic tuna longline observer data from 2010 to 2018,we studied the catch composition in the Chinese pelagic tuna longline fisheries in Atlantic targeting bigeye tuna(Thunnus obesus)and bluefin tuna(Thunnus thynnus),and analyzed the survival status and discard rates of common bycatch species.A total of 55 species,including tunas,billfishes,sharks,sea turtles,cetaceans,seabirds,and other pelagic species,were observed.The results indicated that the catch composition of the Chinese pelagic tuna longline fishery targeting bigeye tuna was significantly different from that targeting bluefin tuna.The annual discard rates of common species decreased over this period.Discard rate by length and discard mortality for common species were varied among species.This is the first study to estimate catch,bycatch,and discard using Chinese pelagic tuna longline observer data in the Atlantic Ocean,which is important for the management of Chinese tuna longline fisheries in Atlantic Ocean.展开更多
Blue marlin(Makaira nigricans)is a common bycatch species in the global tuna longline fishery.In this study,we applied a common data-poor approach,i.e.,depletion-corrected average catch(DCAC)to assess stock status of ...Blue marlin(Makaira nigricans)is a common bycatch species in the global tuna longline fishery.In this study,we applied a common data-poor approach,i.e.,depletion-corrected average catch(DCAC)to assess stock status of the Indian Ocean blue marlin.Sustainable yield(Ysust),one reference point in this case,was estimated,and its uncertainty was integrated by using Monte Carlo simulation.The results revealed the estimate of Ysust by DCAC was lower than MSY of 11,926 t by BSP-SS and is also lower than the provisional reference point of 11,704 t by the management proposal.DCAC is reliable for blue marlin in driving precautionary management quantity based on the CPUE of Japan(1980–2015).This study also implies that DCAC could be applied to other billfish stocks and uncertainty be estimated for sustainable yield.However,data-poor methods could be adjusted with precautionary approaches.展开更多
