There is growing evidence that interleukin(IL)-6 plays an important role in neurological and psychiatric disorders.This editorial comments on the study published in the recent issue of the World Journal of Psychiatry,...There is growing evidence that interleukin(IL)-6 plays an important role in neurological and psychiatric disorders.This editorial comments on the study published in the recent issue of the World Journal of Psychiatry,which employed Mendelian randomization to identify a causal relationship between IL-6 receptor blockade and decreased epilepsy incidence.The purpose of this editorial is to highlight the dual effects of IL-6 in epilepsy and its related neuropsychiatric comorbidities.IL-6 plays a critical role in the facilitation of epileptogenesis and maintenance of epileptic seizures and is implicated in neuroinflammatory proce-sses associated with epilepsy.Furthermore,IL-6 significantly influences mood regulation and cognitive dysfunction in patients with epilepsy,highlighting its involvement in neuropsychiatric comorbidities.In summary,IL-6 is not only a pivotal factor in the pathogenesis of epilepsy but also significantly contributes to the emergence of epilepsy-related neuropsychiatric complications.Future resear-ch should prioritize elucidating the specific mechanisms by which IL-6 operates across different subtypes,stages and neuropsychiatric comorbidities of epilepsy,with the aim of developing more precise and effective interventions.Furthermore,the potential of IL-6 as a biomarker for the early diagnosis and prognosis of epile-psy warrants further investigation.展开更多
A breakthrough article by Ma et al.(2021),published in Nature,revealed the neuroanatomical mechanism of the systemic anti-inflammatory effect mediated by the“vagal-adrenal axis”induced by electroacupuncture[1].Based...A breakthrough article by Ma et al.(2021),published in Nature,revealed the neuroanatomical mechanism of the systemic anti-inflammatory effect mediated by the“vagal-adrenal axis”induced by electroacupuncture[1].Based on previous research,they demonstrated that prokineticin receptor 2(PROKR2)Cre-marked sensory neurons in the dorsal root ganglia are indispensable for the activation of the vagal-adrenal anti-inflammatory pathway induced by low-intensity electroacupuncture stimulation(ES)at Zusanli(ST36)or Shousanli(LI10)acupoints[2].They found that peripheral fibers of PROKR2Cre-marked neurons were abundantly distributed in the deep fascia of the ST36 and LI10 regions but sparsely in the superficial tissue of the corresponding sites,as well as other acupoints such as Chengjin(BL56)and the abdominal Tianshu(ST25).This differential distribution of PROKR2Cre nerve fibers provides tangible neuroanatomical evidence for the relative specificity of the local tissue structure at different acupoints,thereby facilitating the prediction of anti-inflammatory effects induced by low-intensity ES at different acupoints.This crucial research finding allows us to explore its impact on the development of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)as a whole instead of being limited to the acupuncture field.展开更多
Purpose Peripheral T-cell lymphoma(PTCL)is notorious for its heterogeneity as well as poor prognosis.High mortality remains a challenge.Our study aims to assess whether the leukocyte-lymphocyte ratio(LLR)and neutrophi...Purpose Peripheral T-cell lymphoma(PTCL)is notorious for its heterogeneity as well as poor prognosis.High mortality remains a challenge.Our study aims to assess whether the leukocyte-lymphocyte ratio(LLR)and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio(NLR)can be applied as prognostic indexes for patients with PTCL and supplement the prognostic system of PTCL.Methods We reviewed the data of 108 newly diagnosed PTCL patients in the clinic.Theχ^(2) test was applied to contrast baseline characteristics between patients in different groups divided according to the cut-off value of LLR or NLR.The Kaplan-Meier method was adapted to develop the survival curve.The COX ratio risk regression model was used to identify the indexes related to patient survival.Results LLR≥10.30,NLR≥8.25,Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group(ECOG)score≥2,International prognostic index(IPI)score>2,Prognostic Index for T cell lymphoma(PIT)≥2,B symptom,Ann Arbor stage III-IV and high level of Lactic dehydrogenase(LDH)were poor prognosis factors impacting patients’overall survival(OS)by the univariate analysis.The multivariate analysis illustrated that only LLR≥10.30 was significantly related to OS(P all<0.05).Conclusion Overall,our analysis revealed that LLR≥10.30 was significantly associated with poorer OS and was a novel prognostic index for PTCL.展开更多
