Thus the key of the supply-side structural reform lies in breaking through the long-term path dependence and facilitating the transformation and innovation of socio-economic and urban development. This paper takes Shenzhen as the benchmark of the comparative study, and Guangzhou and Tianjin as the comparative object to analyze the contributions of the demand-side 'troika' – investment, consumption, and export, to economic growth from 1986 to 2015. Then, it introduces multiple growth elements on the supply-side to analyze the significant contribution elements in urban economic growth and their contribution degrees. Meanwhile, in combination with the economic development background and the policy guidance since the reform and opening up, the paper analyzes the characteristics of the development paths and their trends of the three cities. In the end, based on the comparative study, it carries out a discussion on the development path for mega-cities and their urban planning strategies at the new era from three perspectives.展开更多

Urban design, depending on the methodology of urban form and the creation of the spatial environment to promote stormwater resilience, has broken through the traditional design mode and become an efficient path leading to addressing urban stormwater disaster. Firstly, this paper discusses the concept and connotation of stormwater resilient urban design based on the resilient city theory in order to set up the theoretical framework of the design method. Then combining with the specific cases and focusing on four key problems of urban design, the practical urban design methods in favor of stormwater resilience are analyzed, including the optimization of land use, the organization of urban structure, the creation of multi-functional space, and the integration of urban systems. In the end, the paper further analyzes the challenges in practical application. Stormwater resilient urban design expands the boundary of traditional urban design and provides a new choice for performance-based e co-city design.展开更多

Given the background of global warming and fossil fuel crisis, it is argued that the issue should be considered from not only the perspective of economic benefits of a city but should also consider the energy consumption efficiency of the city. On the basis of the energy consumption data of 286 cities at the prefectural level and above in Chinese mainland except Lasa, which are obtained from the EU Emission Database for Global Atmospheric Research(EDGAR), this paper carries out an empirical analysis on the relationship between the city size and the energy consumption efficiency of the city. Then based on this analysis, the paper further examines the economic benefits, social benefits, and environment quality of cities in different scales, and the findings reveal that large cities with 2 – 5 million population have the highest efficiency in all these aspects.展开更多
After the Wenchuan earthquake of 2008 in Sichuan, China, in order to meet the demand for temporary and transitional houses, Chinese government organized the construction of a great number of plate-houses that played a...After the Wenchuan earthquake of 2008 in Sichuan, China, in order to meet the demand for temporary and transitional houses, Chinese government organized the construction of a great number of plate-houses that played an important role at the time. This paper conducts a comparative study between the plate-houses constructed after Wenchuan earthquake and the temporary shelters in other countries on aspects including planning layout, area index, social psychology, economic cost, etc. In the Wenchuan case, statistics show that the FAR of the plate-house residential area is around 0.4, the number of supporting houses makes up 20% in the total house sets, the average floor area of each house is about 25 m^2 that occupies a land area of 60 m^2, and the per capita planned floor area is 7 m^2, which is far above the international recommended minimum standard of 3.5 m^2. Even if the area for residence, school, hospital, and other land use functions are all counted, the per capita planed land use area of China's plate-house area is still above the international recommended minimum standard, which is 30 m^2. This paper holds that China has been capable of the planning and construction of the physical space of plate-house, but the holistic concept and the systematic arrangement level still need further promotion.展开更多

Being an important part of a region’s ecological space,the habitat units on the urban fringe continuously provide multiple services for the city and its residents and guarantee the ecological security of the local te...Being an important part of a region’s ecological space,the habitat units on the urban fringe continuously provide multiple services for the city and its residents and guarantee the ecological security of the local territory.Mainly composed of farmlands,secondary woodlands,ditches and ponds,etc.,they are typical semi-natural habitat which is subject to the influences of both the human society and the natural environment.As they involve multiple stakeholders and concern complex ownerships,top-down measures are difficult to be implemented,as presented by the Not-In-MyBackyard(NIMBY)phenomenon against protected areas.Based on the Actor-Network Theory,this paper clarifies the intrinsic relationship between the maintenance of urban fringe habitat units and the relevant social elements.Through the case study on Yilan’s practice of protecting and utilizing agricultural and forestry resources in Taiwan,China,the paper explores the community supported management and control strategies for the purposes of enhancing the protection of habitat units and promoting the effectiveness of regional services,which are implemented through the steps of implementing such translation methods as Obligatory Passage Point setting and benefit granting,recruiting and mobilizing relevant actors to form a network,and realizing the substantial protection of habitat units.展开更多
