Six lines are taken as a case study to investigate the use of their underground stations and tunnels. The research explains the structural design of Underground Metro and the necessary needs for hidden people inside Underground Metro used as shelters. The research investigates the calculations of the number of hidden persons inside Underground Metro used as shelters. A field study has been conducted to an Underground Metro station to detemaine the peaceful use and the emergency use of all basements of the station. Also, the field study aims to determine the existing spaces and the needed spaces of the Underground Metro station to dual--used as a nuclear shelter. Three Underground Metro stations have been selected and a field study has been conducted to determine the usages of these basements, the planning, general and design features for each one of them, and whether they can be used as protective structures for citizens in emergencies. These basements were compared for their protective factors. Also, their capacities for sheltering were calculated.展开更多

The research aims to explain how to use tunnels to protect some people from neutrons and gamma rays and account the required safe depth. The computer code (MCNP5) is used at this model for such tunnel to account attenuation of both neutrons and gamma rays passing through the canal water, sand, soil and reinforced concrete wall layers. The last one (thickness 105 cm) constructed the tunnel construction. Also, the computer code is used to account the dose inside the tunnel, and account (neutron) dose, (neutron, gamma) dose, prompt (gamma) dose, total (gamma) dose and total (neutron + gamma) dose estimated by μsv/h, at different depths from the water surface level (depths 200 cm, 500 cm, 1,000 cm, 1,600 cm, 2,200 cm, 2,600 cm, 2,800 cm, 3,400 cm, 3,700 cm, 4,000 cm and 4,600 cm). Then, account these doses for three bombs (its intensity 20 KT, 100 KT and 1,000 KT).展开更多

It is also focusing on the simulation system. Its main objective is to set general guidelines for architects. They should be aware of the basics of nuclear facilities designs and components. A traditional nuclear power plant consists of a nuclear reactor, a control building, a turbines building, cooling towers, service buildings (an office building & a medical research center) and a nuclear & radiation waste storage building. Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran and Angra nuclear power plant in Brazil have been chosen as examples. Furthermore, this paper presents design analyses for Bushehr nuclear power plant and Angra nuclear power plant that include design theory (linear design and radial design) and positive & negative aspects of these designs. At the end of this paper, results and recommendations on the architectural and urban aspects of nuclear power plants are revealed.展开更多

Three Egyptian nuclear research centers and the proposed nuclear research center have been studied. These centers are the Nuclear Research Center in Inshas, the Hot laboratories and Waste Management Center in Inshas, the National Center for Radiation Research and Technology in Nasr City and the proposed Nuclear Research Center in North Western Coast of Egypt. Also, the paper aims to study the functions of these centers, as well as the types of their existing facilities. The paper investigates the principles and standards used in design and planning of these nuclear research centers. A comparative study has been conducted to those four nuclear research centers to evaluate the centers according to the site characteristics and the basic safety factors. The results were compared to determine the best design and planning. The proposed Nuclear Research Center in North Western Coast of Egypt proved to be the best among all with regard to design and planning, taking into consideration the radiation safety requirements. The architects are recommended to design and plan the nuclear research centers, taking into consideration the radial planning concept because it is the best with regard to radiation safety requirements.展开更多
