The loss of a toothhas lifelong consequences for children and teenagers, but the maintenance of pulphealth and the calcific healing of multiple root fractures are rarely reported in theliterature.CASE SUMMARY This case reports healing of a permanent tooth with complicated crown–root andadditional root fractures, in which pulp health was maintained. A 10-year-old girlfell and fractured the root of her maxillary left central incisor at the cervical level. After the coronal fragment was repositioned, the tooth was splinted until thetooth was no longer mobile, 2 years later. Eight years after treatment, the toothhas remained asymptomatic with vital pulp and localized gingival overgrowth.Cone-beam computed tomography revealed not only calcified healing of the CRFbut also spontaneous healing in an additional undiagnosed root fracture. Thefracture line on the enamel could not be healed by hard tissue and formed agroove in the cervical crown. It was speculated that the groove was related to thelocalized gingival overgrowth.CONCLUSION This case provides a clinical perspective of the treatment of a tooth with acomplicated CRF and an additional root fracture.展开更多

Mathematical analysis reveals that the UV cutoff results in the minimum structures of space. Dominated by rotational symmetry, the structure should be a local one in situ or on a sphere. Investigations show that a 10D minimum structure is a non-local one with transformability between in-situ state and spherical state due to its special topology. Based on the quantum behaviors of the 10D structure controlled by translational symmetry, IR cutoff determines two long-range interactions with dimensionless constants of ~1/137.036 and ~1/1.628E+38, respectively.展开更多

文摘In this study,an end-to-end deep learning method is proposed to improve the accuracy of continuum estimation in low-resolution gamma-ray spectra.A novel process for generating the theoretical continuum of a simulated spectrum is established, and a convolutional neural network consisting of 51 layers and more than 105 parameters is constructed to directly predict the entire continuum from the extracted global spectrum features. For testing,an in-house NaI-type whole-body counter is used, and 106 training spectrum samples(20%of which are reserved for testing)are generated using Monte Carlo simulations. In addition, the existing fitting,step-type,and peak erosion methods are selected for comparison. The proposed method exhibits excellent performance,as evidenced by its activity error distribution and the smallest mean activity error of 1.5%among the evaluated methods.Additionally,a validation experiment is performed using a whole-body counter to analyze a human physical phantom containing four radionuclides. The largest activity error of the proposed method is−5.1%,which is considerably smaller than those of the comparative methods, confirming the test results. The multiscale feature extraction and nonlinear relation modeling in the proposed method establish a novel approach for accurate and convenient continuum estimation in a low-resolution gamma-ray spectrum. Thus, the proposed method is promising for accurate quantitative radioactivity analysis in practical applications.

文摘Rechargeable aqueous zinc-metal batteries (AZMBs) are promising candidates for large-scale energy storage systems due to their low cost and high safety. However, their performance and sustainability are significantly hindered by the sluggish desolvation kinetics at the electrode/electrolyte interface and the corresponding hydrogen evolution reaction where active water molecules tightly participate in the Zn(H_(2)O)_(6)^(2+)solvation shell.Herein, learnt from self-generated solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) in anodes, the dielectric but ion-conductive zinc niobate nanoparticles artificial layer is constructed on metallic Zn surface (ZNB@Zn),acting as a rapid desolvation promotor. The zincophilic and dielectric-conductive properties of ZNB layer accelerate interfacial desolvation/diffusion and suppress surface corrosion or dendrite formation, achieving uniform Zn plating/stripping behavior,as confirmed by electronic/optical microscopies and interface spectroscopical measurements together with theoretical calculations.Consequently, the as-prepared ZNB@Zn electrode exhibits excellent cycling stability of over 2000 h and robust reversibility (99.54%) even under high current density and depth of discharge conditions.Meanwhile, the assembled ZNB@Zn-based full cell displays high capacity-retention rate of 80.21%after 3000 cycles at 5 A g^(-1)and outstanding rate performance up to 10 A g^(-1).The large-areal pouch cell is stabilized for hundreds of cycles, highlighting the bright prospects of the dielectric but ion-conductive layer in further application of AZMBs.

文摘High-entropy materials have become high-activity electrocatalysis owing to their high-entropy effect and multiple active sites.Herein,we synthesize a series of carbon-supported nano high-entropy oxides(HEOs/C),specifically (PtFeCoNiCu)O/C,using a carbothermal shock (CTS) method for application as a cathode catalyst in direct borohydride fuel cells (DBFCs).The microstructure of the prepared catalysts was characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,X-ray absorption fine structure, and transmission electron microscopy. The prepared (PtFeCoNiCu)O/C,with particle sizes ranging from 2 to 4 nm,demonstrates 3.94 transferred electrons towards the oxygen reduction reaction in an alkaline environment, resulting in a minimal H_(2)O_(2)yield of 2.6%.Additionally,it exhibits a Tafel slope of 61 mV dec-1,surpassing that of commercial Pt/C (82 mV dec-1).Furthermore,after 40,000 cycles of cyclic voltammetry(CV) testing, the half-wave potential of (PtFeCoNiCu)O/C shows a positive shift of 3 mV,with no notable decline in the limiting current density. When (PtFeCoNiCu)O/C is used as a cathode catalyst in DBFCs,the DBFC achieves a maximum power density of 441 mW cm^(-2)at 60°C and sustains a cell voltage of approximately 0.73 V after 52 h at 30°C.These findings confirm that HEO/C is a promising cathode catalyst for DBFCs.

文摘Birds exhibit extraordinary mobility and remarkable navigational skills, obtaining guidance cues from the Earth’s magnetic field for orientation and long-distance movement.Bird species also show tremendous diversity in navigation strategies, with considerable differences even within the same taxa and among individuals from the same population. The highly conserved iron and iron-sulfur cluster binding magnetoreceptor(MagR)protein is suggested to enable animals, including birds,to detect the geomagnetic field and navigate accordingly.Notably,MagR is also implicated in other functions, such as electron transfer and biogenesis of iron-sulfur clusters, raising the question of whether variability exists in its biochemical and biophysical features among species, particularly birds. In the current study,we conducted a comparative analysis of MagR from two different bird species, including the migratory European robin(Erithacus rubecula)and the homing pigeon(Columba livia).Sequence alignment revealed an extremely high degree of similarity between the MagRs of these species, with only three sequence variations.Nevertheless, two of these variations underpinned significant differences in metal binding capacity, oligomeric state, and magnetic properties. These findings offer compelling evidence for the marked differences in MagR between the two avian species, potentially explaining how a highly conserved protein can mediate such diverse functions.
