Introduction: Human pegivirus (HPgV), initially identified as hepatitis G virus in the 1990s, predominantly causes acute hepatitis and may persist particularly in individuals with compromised immune systems or those co-infected with HIV, HBV, or HCV. Despite its potential public health implications, particularly in transfusion contexts, comprehensive epidemiological data on HPgV in Burkina Faso remains scarce. Objectives: This study aimed to determine 1) the prevalence of human pegivirus infection among blood donors at the Regional Blood Transfusion Centre (Koudougou, Burkina Faso), and 2) the rates of co-infection between human pegivirus with HIV, HBV, HCV and Treponema pallidum. Material and Methods: Between 9 and 27 August 2022, 100 blood samples were collected and analyzed at the Regional Blood Transfusion Centre. Screening for HIV, HBV, HCV, and Treponema pallidum was conducted using the Cobas e 601 system (Roche Diagnostics). A 100 μL volume of each donor’s plasma was utilized for viral RNA extraction with the DNA/RNA Prep Kit (Sacace Biotechnologies) following the manufacturer’s instructions. HPgV RNA detection was conducted using the HGV Real-TM amplification kit (Sacace Biotechnologies). Results: The study was comprised of 100 blood donors, identifying HPgV RNA in 14 individuals (14% prevalence), with one noted co-infection with HBV. None of the participants were HIV positive. The prevalence rates for HBV and HCV were each found to be 5%, and syphilis also presented a prevalence of 5%. Conclusion: Our findings indicate a significant prevalence of HPgV among blood donors in Burkina Faso, underscoring the need for heightened surveillance and preventive measures in blood transfusion services and the broader population to enhance transfusion safety and public health. 展开更多

Introduction: Genetic polymorphisms of some Glutathione S-Transferase (GST) which encode the enzyme responsible for the biotransformation of drugs and xenobiotics, have been associated with the risk of several pathologies that can progress to cancer such as Hepatitis B. This study aims to characterize the impact of the rs1695 polymorphism of GSTP1 gene among people with chronic Hepatitis B infection in Burkina Faso. Methods: rs1695 polymorphisms of GSTP1 gene genotyping was performed for 50 people infected with chronic Hepatitis B virus and 124 healthy people with the PCR-RFLP method. Conventional PCR was used for DNA amplification and Alw26I enzyme was used for enzymatic digestion. Results: The results show that the frequencies of AA, AG and GG genotypes are respectively 31.00%, 36.80% and 32.20% in general the study population with a mutation rate of 50.57%. However, the incidence of the AA, AG and GG genotypes are respectively 30.64%, 38.71% and 30.64% among people with chronic Hepatitis B virus infection and 32.00%, 32.00% and 36.00% among healthy people. In cases, the frequencies of the A and G alleles are 48.00% and 52.00% respectively, and in controls 50.00% each. No statistical difference was found by comparing genotypic and allelic frequencies between cases and controls (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Our study allowed us to determine the rate of GSTP1 rs1695 genotypes in the study population, cases and controls. From our analyses, GSTP1 rs1695 is not associated to chronic Hepatitis B virus infection in Ouagadougou. 展开更多

Objective:To evaluate the prevalence of toxoplasmosis and rubella among pregnant women at Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso. Methods:All patient sera were tested for rubella and toxoplasmosis anti-IgG using commercial ELISA kits(PlateliaTMRubella IgG and Platelia? Toxo IgG).The presence of anti-rubella and anti-toxoplasmosis tgM in serum samples was tested using commercial ELISA kits Platelia Rubella TgM and Platelia Toxo IgM.Results:Among all the pregnant women tested for toxoplasmosis and rubella, their prevalence were 20.3% and 77.0%,respectively.Pregnant women in the age group of 18-25 years showed the highest frequency of anti-toxoplasmosis(34.5%) and anti-rubella IgG(84.6%).The prevalence of anti-toxoplasma and anti-rubella IgG decreased between 2006 and 2008 from 32.7%to 12.1%and 84.6% to 65.0%,respectively.There was no significant association between age and the mean titer of anti-toxoplasmosis IgG among pregnant women. Conclusions:The diagnosis of toxoplasmosis and rubella is necessary in pregnant women in Burkina Faso because of the low immunization coverage rate of rubella and the high level of exposure to these two infections which can be harmful to the newborn if contracted by women before the third trimester of pregnancy. 展开更多
