Objective To observe the effect of scalp acupuncture on the treatment of children with cerebral palsy(CP).Methods Thirty-six children in the USA with cerebral palsy were treated with Chinese scalp acupuncture at the...Objective To observe the effect of scalp acupuncture on the treatment of children with cerebral palsy(CP).Methods Thirty-six children in the USA with cerebral palsy were treated with Chinese scalp acupuncture at the Neuroacupuncture Institute in Santa Fe,New Mexico,USA.Foot motor and sensory area,motor area,speech I area,speech II area,balance area,vision area,apraxia area,and I vision area were selected base on patient's clinical manifestation.Rotating manual stimulation was performed during each session of acupuncture.The retention of needles was 30 minutes.Results These 36 patients received between 3–20 treatments,5 had complete resolution of their symptom,14 cases a marked effect,14 had some effect,and 3 patients experienced no improvement.No adverse events were reported.Conclusion Chinese scalp acupuncture in these 33 cases appears to be an effective treatment for patients with CP and should be considered as an adjunctive therapy for more CP patients.Chinese scalp acupuncture relieved many of these patients' symptoms,increased their quality of life,and reversed many physical disabilities.Some of the patients returned to a normal life.Those treatments have laid a foundation for research into the clinical application of Chinese scalp acupuncture in the treatment of CP.展开更多
Objective:As a popular complementary therapy,the safety of acupuncture must be considered.Acupuncture case reports of adverse events(ACR-AEs)significantly contribute to the assessment of acupuncture safety.However,the...Objective:As a popular complementary therapy,the safety of acupuncture must be considered.Acupuncture case reports of adverse events(ACR-AEs)significantly contribute to the assessment of acupuncture safety.However,the reporting quality of ACR-AEs remains unclear.We aimed to promote the application of the CARE(case report)guidelines and improve the reporting quality of ACR-AEs.Methods:We systematically searched for ACR-AE from six databases:Medline,Embase,Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System,China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Wanfang Data,and VIP,and collected published ACR-AEs from January 1,2016,to December 31,2020.We included only case reports of adverse events related to acupuncture therapy.The retrieved case reports were screened and filtered by two reviewers independently.Then,basic information extraction and CARE evaluation of the included ACR-AEs wereperformed.Results:A total of 56 ACR-AE were included,15 of which were from China.The top two major diseases were nervous system diseases(28.6%)and infections(21.4%).For all ACR-AEs,seven of 30 CARE subordinate items were reported in 30%or less,seven items were reported in 30-60%,and only five items got reporting proportion over 90%.In Chinese ACR-AE,only three items,"the main concerns and symptoms of the patient(5b)","types of intervention(9a)"and"adverse and unanticipated events(1od)"were sufficiently reported.In English ACR-AE,item"the main concerns and symptoms of the patient(5b)"and item"the primary takeaway lessons(11d)"were also generally reported.Conclusion:Overall,the reporting quality of ACR-AE was unsatisfactory,and we believe that a special reporting guideline for clinical cases targeted at acupuncture should be extended in future studies.展开更多
This article describes research needs for sustainable buildings as defi ned in a July 2009 National Science Foundationsponsored workshop.This workshop brought together building researchers with researchers in the area...This article describes research needs for sustainable buildings as defi ned in a July 2009 National Science Foundationsponsored workshop.This workshop brought together building researchers with researchers in the areas of distributed renewable energy and multifunctional materials to engage their expertise and identify overlapping research needs and opportunities.An overview of sustainable building design provided the broad context for discussion.This overview was followed by focused presentations in building control systems,advanced building envelopes,and systems and process integration.In addition,presentations on distributed renewable energy and multi-functional materials supported the participants in outlining and generating research needs that connect the topic areas.The primary outcome from this part of the workshop was the identifi cation of key sustainable building research needs in:transformative measurements;passive strategies;regional solutions and living labs;systems integration;storage and cascades;adoption of international advances;and implementation and market transformation.These needs,along with associated technical challenges and potential impacts,are described in this paper to guide sustainable building research.展开更多
On October 26-28,2005,in Pittsburgh,PA,key members of the building industry,green design community,healthcare industry,academic institutions,and government agencies gathered in a targeted dialogue to consider the feas...On October 26-28,2005,in Pittsburgh,PA,key members of the building industry,green design community,healthcare industry,academic institutions,and government agencies gathered in a targeted dialogue to consider the feasibility of forming a consortium to improve how healthcare facilities are planned,designed,constructed,and maintained.The roundtable formally documented the drivers and expectations of participants;instinctual,emotional,and intellectual reactions of participants to healthcare facilities greening;and the strengths,opportunities,and challenges posed by the task of greening healthcare facilities.Three areas of consensus emerged clearly from the discussion:(a)All participants supported the formation of a consortium focused on the greening of healthcare facilities;(b)All believed the mix of expertise will make this consortium unique;and(c)All believed that the development of a shared research agenda among the building industry,healthcare providers,and academia is vital.The proposed greening healthcare consortium envisions:(1)Providing a network for sharing existing research and findings related to greening of healthcare facilities;(2)Facilitating collaboration between healthcare projects,current research,and hospital performance data;and(3)Providing an informed basis for healthcare design and construction decision-making.Based on input from the roundtable discussions,eight research thrusts were identified that the proposed consortium would be ideally positioned to address based on the competencies and positions of the members.These eight research thrusts are:(1)establishing the relationships between facilities and clinical outcome;(2)defining costvalue relationships regarding green building;(3)understanding the basis for decision making;(4)compiling a data repository;(5)developing active and passive research methods;(6)investigating interdependencies;(7)minimizing or eliminating waste;and(8)implementing research.The active inter-industry discourse promoted by this consortium between the healthcare industry,building industry,and academic institutions allows for a unique dynamic to be harnessed between the“physiology”of healthcare and the“physics”of healthcare facilities.This will enable the delivery of healthcare projects and the quality of healthcare to be continuously improved and enhanced.The operational framework for the proposed consortium would rely on projects from the building and healthcare industries serving as case studies for gathering information and incorporating the developments of research at academic institutions.展开更多
