The changes in the evolvement patterns of surface electromyography(EMG)signals during both static and dynamic fatiguing contractions are studied.The main finding is that the EMG signal tends to be more and more regu...The changes in the evolvement patterns of surface electromyography(EMG)signals during both static and dynamic fatiguing contractions are studied.The main finding is that the EMG signal tends to be more and more regular as muscle fatigues.An increase in the summation of all the regular evolvement patterns denoted by Dreg reflects such a tendency.Compared with traditional measurements,Dreg shows less variability among subjects when characterizing a fatigue process.In addition,the calculation of Dreg in the time domain is free from the restrictions disturbing those of spectral parameters.The detection of an increase in the EMG regularity not only proposes a new and easy way to inspect changes in EMG during the fatigue process,but also provides strong supports to estimate muscle fatigue by means of nonlinear analysis methods such as entropy and complexity measures.The detection method of signal regularity can also be applied to other physiological signals.展开更多
Objective To observe the correlations of chest CT quantitative parameters in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(AECOPD)with blood eosinophil(EOS)level.Methods Chest CT data of 16...Objective To observe the correlations of chest CT quantitative parameters in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(AECOPD)with blood eosinophil(EOS)level.Methods Chest CT data of 162 AECOPD patients with elevated eosinophils were retrospectively analyzed.The patients were divided into low EOS group(n=105)and high EOS group(n=57)according to the absolute counting of blood EOS.The quantitative CT parameters,including the number of whole lung bronchi and the volume of blood vessels,low-attenuation area percentage(LAA%)of whole lung,of left/right lung and each lobe of lung,as well as the luminal diameter(LD),wall thickness(WT),wall area(WA)and WA percentage of total bronchial cross-section(WA%)of grade 3 to 8 bronchi were compared between groups.Spearman correlations were performed to analyze the correlations of quantitative CT parameters with blood EOS level.Results LAA%of the whole lung,of the left/right lung and each lobe of lung,as well as of the upper lobe of right lung LD grade 4,middle lobe of right lung WT grade 5,upper lobe of right lung WA grade 4,middle lobe of right lung WA grade 5 and lower lobe of left lung WA grade 3 in low EOS group were all higher than those in high EOS group(all P<0.05).Except for the upper lobe of right lung LD grade 4,the above quantitative CT indexes being significant different between groups were all weakly and negatively correlated with blood EOS level(r=-0.335 to-0.164,all P<0.05).Conclusion Chest CT quantitative parameters of AECOPD patients were correlated with blood EOS level,among which LAA%,a part of WT and WA were all weakly negatively correlated with blood EOS level.展开更多
Approximate entropy (ApEn), a measure quantifying regularity and complexity, is believed to be an effective analyzing method of diverse settings that include both deterministic chaotic and stochastic processes, partic...Approximate entropy (ApEn), a measure quantifying regularity and complexity, is believed to be an effective analyzing method of diverse settings that include both deterministic chaotic and stochastic processes, particularly operative in the analysis of physiological signals that involve relatively small amount of data. However, the similarity definition of vectors based on Heaviside function, of which the boundary is discontinuous and hard, may cause some problems in the validity and accuracy of ApEn. To overcome these problems, a modified ApEn based on fuzzy similarity (mApEn) was proposed. The performance on the MIX stochastic model, as well as those on the Logistic map and the Hennon map with noise, shows that the fuzzy similarity-based ApEn gets more satisfying results than the standard ApEn when characterizing systems with different regularities.展开更多
